Eleven permits, twenty years, and one town keeps repeating: Peabody. Jean C Frenette works out of 11 Newcomb Ave in Lynn, and what the permit files describe is North Shore interior remodeling — kitchens, bathrooms, a bedroom renovation, windows and sliders swapped out. The jobs are modest and specific. A $16,400 bathroom remodel on Mohawk Rd in Marblehead in April 2021. A kitchen and two baths with a new shed-roof addition and beams in Peabody in 2015. A 2013 Danvers kitchen where the cabinets came out and an opening was widened from five feet to ten with two columns added. A Beverly house that came back twice, first for a bedroom-and-bathroom renovation with new Andersen windows in 2012, then for a kitchen the following year — repeat work from the same address is worth something. The credentials need checking, and not casually. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts construction supervisor licence, CS-070906, and a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 125999, and shows both as inactive and at one point cancelled. It also lists a City of Newton registration under number 111615 twice, once as a general contractor and once as an electrical contractor, with an expiration date it last saw in December 2022 — and then states on the same page that it has no active licence on file. None of that has been confirmed against the state, in either direction. This matters here more than it would for a painter: kitchen and bathroom renovation work of this kind is not exempt from Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, and an unregistered contractor puts a homeowner outside the state's Guaranty Fund. The other gap is that no customer has written anything public about the work. So: a small, long-running North Shore remodeler with a real permit history and no reputation trail. Before any deposit, ask for the current HIC registration number and construction supervisor licence and check both yourself at Mass.gov Consumer Affairs and the Department of Public Safety, and ask for the Beverly and Peabody homeowners as references.
