JJ Tile and Stone is a one-man-crew tile and stone shop out of Stoneham that homeowners call for the parts of a renovation that show up close: herringbone mudroom floors, backsplashes, tiled showers and stone countertops. The company says it was founded in 2004, originally trading as JJ Flooring, and is owner-operated by James Felizardo — the site's own words are "owner operated, no subs." The written record runs deep: 30 reviews across six sources from 2014 to now, and the story barely changes. Two recent Google reviews, from spring 2026, describe smooth, quick installs — one credits Johny with a herringbone-pattern mudroom floor and James with fixing an unrelated grout crack in the kitchen during the same visit. Reviewers keep landing on the same details across the years: on-time arrival, protected or cleaned-up job sites, and prices called fair. In a 2025 review, a homeowner had an old tub reseal and a tiled-wall regrout done, and noted James took his shoes off before entering without being asked. In a 2014 Houzz review, a customer describes the crew leveling an uneven cement basement floor before tiling it along with a foyer and kitchen backsplash. A cluster of 2023 reviews describes full gut-and-retile bathroom jobs, including a "complete bathroom renovation" in a historic home where mid-project scope changes were accommodated. Worth asking about before booking: the business traded for years as J&J Flooring, and briefly as JJ Flooring & Baths, before its current name. A Houzz profile still carries that older identity — a Revere address, the old jjflooringandbaths.com website, and several reviews formatted like migrated Angie's List content — even though the phone number matches the current Stoneham listing exactly; worth confirming you're looking at current pricing and contact details. Directories also disagree on licensing: Houzz's own field says no license is required for this work, while Thumbtack separately lists a "verified" Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license with no number shown. Neither is a state registry check, so ask directly if your project needs one. The BBB file carries an A+ rating, though the business is not BBB accredited. This is the shop to call for tile, stone and countertop work — showers, backsplashes, mudroom and kitchen floors, fireplace facades — done personally by the owner and a small crew rather than handed off to a room-remodel general contractor. Confirm current contact details and license status directly, given the older, conflicting directory records.
Good communication prior to work being done. Demo was quick and efficient. Install was smooth and finishing touches were to my expectations. I would use them again!
These are the guys you want to hire. They are incredibly professional, patient, and they price very fairly. Johny did a spectacular job tiling our mudroom floor in a herringbone pattern. James helped me figure out how to fix a cracking grout issue that I had in my kitchen (unrelated to the project that I hired him for). All of the trash was taken and the finished product looks amazing. We couldn’t be happier.
We had a great experience with JJ Tile & Stone. Communication was easy throughout the project, they kept the space clean, and the pricing was very fair. The kitchen countertop and the tiled shower both came out great — really happy with the final result.
We had the pleasure of working James and his team for our bathroom renovation. The team was very respectful and clean. The work is exceptional and they did a great job communicating with us. We will definitely work with them again and recommend to friends!
We have worked with James and his crew at JJ Tile and Stone for several of our home renovation projects. We repeatedly call on them as they exceed our expectations time and again! This company is highly qualified, reliable & trust worthy! Give them a call for all your tile, kitchen and bath remodeling needs. ~ Heather Kelly
