Thirty homeowner reviews stretching from 2014 to this year, every one of them five stars, and the owner's first name in almost all of them. JJ Tile and Stone works out of 76 Maple St in Stoneham and is run by James Felizardo — "Jay" in the older reviews — who the company says started it in 2004 under the name JJ Flooring. The BBB puts the business start at February 2004 and incorporation in January 2005, with four employees, and grades it A+ while separately stating it is not BBB Accredited. What people hire them for is tile and stone: floors, backsplashes, showers and full bathroom tiling, plus stone veneer, fireplace facades and countertops. Several customers describe them handling the whole bathroom, not just the tile — one 2017 homeowner said Jay's team ran demo, flooring, tile, heated floors and even drywall on a master bath they managed without a general contractor. The recent record is consistent and specific. This year customers have described a herringbone mudroom floor laid by Johny, a kitchen countertop and tiled shower finished together, and a bathroom renovation where the crew was clean and communicative. A 2025 reviewer had an alcove shower quoted the same day and finished inside a week; another said the crew took their shoes off unasked before resealing an old tub surround. Pricing comes up over and over as fair or reasonable, and several customers mention James talking them through layout and material choices before quoting. The most useful account is a critical one. A homeowner writing in February 2014 about a curbless shower praised the waterproofing, the mud-set floor and the work with a plumber on a linear drain, but reported a rust stain bleeding from a grout line into the stone — the company returned and replaced the tile — and said the pace of the project dragged on. Worth asking how long your job is scheduled to take and who is on site each day. The licence picture is the one thing to settle yourself. Houzz's profile simply asserts "There is no license required", while Thumbtack shows a "License verified — Home Improvement Contractor, License state: MA" badge with no number, and the company's own site says only that it is licensed in Massachusetts. Neither directory is a state check. If your job is a bathroom remodel rather than plain floor covering, ask for the Home Improvement Contractor registration number and confirm it with the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation before signing. For a Greater Boston or North Shore homeowner who wants a tile specialist rather than a general contractor — a shower, a backsplash, a tiled bathroom floor — this is a well-established small shop with a long, unusually consistent history. Get the written proposal, the licence number and the schedule up front.

Good communication prior to work being done. Demo was quick and efficient. Install was smooth and finishing touches were to my expectations. I would use them again!

These are the guys you want to hire. They are incredibly professional, patient, and they price very fairly. Johny did a spectacular job tiling our mudroom floor in a herringbone pattern. James helped me figure out how to fix a cracking grout issue that I had in my kitchen (unrelated to the project that I hired him for). All of the trash was taken and the finished product looks amazing. We couldn’t be happier.

We had a great experience with JJ Tile & Stone. Communication was easy throughout the project, they kept the space clean, and the pricing was very fair. The kitchen countertop and the tiled shower both came out great — really happy with the final result.
