One man, one van, and a pool route out of Lowell — John Lynch runs JL Pool Service himself, and every customer who writes about him thanks him by first name. The work is pool care rather than construction: openings and closings, weekly cleaning, chemical balancing, pumps and filters that have stopped working. A customer this July had a dead pump on a concrete in-ground pool, said he answered immediately and was out two days later, and that he fixed what an earlier company had only papered over with valve adjustments. In May, a first-time above-ground owner had him open her pool and wrote that he knew more about it than she did and was patient with every question. In April another described weekly cleaning on a green, algae-heavy in-ground pool. Alongside the pool work he also takes ordinary handyman jobs — TV mounting, appliance and dishwasher installation, door repair, furniture assembly, trim and shelving. The caution is how thin the record still is. Thumbtack is the only platform carrying him, with 4.4 stars from 15 ratings and 14 hires; nothing turned up on Google, Yelp, the BBB or any permit directory. Inside that 15, the star bar shows 13% at one star — about two ratings — and neither of those accounts is readable, so the only voices you can actually read are the positive ones. The experience claim needs unpacking too. Thumbtack records the business as one year old, while Lynch says he has more than 15 years in pool service, starting with his father at eight and working full time from fourteen. Both can be true; they are the company's age and the man's career, not the same number. He also states on his own profile that he is a certified pool and spa operator, which is his claim rather than something confirmed here. He charges $100 for an on-site estimate, waived if you hire him. Right call for pool opening, closing, weekly service and equipment repair around Lowell, especially if you want the same person every visit. Ask what the certification covers and get the estimate fee in writing before he comes out.

Responded immediately; came 2 days later and resolved the problems Precision Pool did not. Listened to my concerns and resolved them, instead of just adjusting valves and partial cleaning. Also very reasonable. Thanks John. Details: In ground, Outdoors, Concrete, Non-functional pump. Swimming Pool Repair.

I hired John for the 1st time to open my above ground pool, He came when he said he would, very thorough and knowledgeable, He knew more about my pool than I did. He was very patient with all my questions because I am fairly new at this. I had all the parts to pool filter ready and in a short time had it up and running!! I will definitely call him when I need him and for sure...to close it in Fall. THANKS JOHN, Rosa B. (Lynn). Details: Winterization, Above ground pool, Vinyl, Chlorinated water, Pool water is clear, One time only.
