Thirty-three written accounts stretching back to 2016, and the same three words keep surfacing: neat, clean, thorough. JM Painting & Home Services is run out of Westford by John Michael, who says on his own site that he personally reviews every project with the homeowner, and the reviews bear that out — customers name him, not a call centre. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #162843, is active and held in his name. The work is painting plus the carpentry that painting exposes. Across the record people describe exterior repaints that began with power washing and the replacement of rotted trim, window sills and clapboards; wallpaper removal on awkward geometry; and interiors taken back to bare walls. One 2017 account described a wallpapered foyer with a sixteen-foot ceiling and a two-storey staircase where the crew set metal staging planks, skim-coated, applied a bonding primer and then two coats of washable matte. A 2024 reviewer wrote that they covered his car in the driveway and taught him some home-repair techniques while they were at it. Repeat business is the strongest thread. One customer writing in 2023 had used the company for several large jobs over five years — siding and trim repairs before exterior painting, then three rooms, a stairwell and a three-season porch — and called the cleanup immaculate. Another, in 2022, had hired them three separate times. Two 2024 reviewers describe pre-sale work turned around fast enough to get a house on the market. The thing you should read before calling is a 0.5-star review posted on Angi in July 2021. The customer wrote that the finished work was okay but that John did not act on their list of missed spots, and then alleged he mocked their culture and race in front of their child. The business posted a public reply disputing the review. It is a single account, it is five years old, and it is contradicted by everything else on file — but it is specific, it is serious, and it is the one thing here worth raising directly. The other thing to pin down is how long they have actually been doing this. Angi's profile claims 29 years of experience, the company's own Angi service list says over fifteen, and BBB dates the business to 1 January 2015 — eleven years. Those cannot all describe the same thing, so ask. Note too that the written record is thinner than the star counts suggest lately: Angi's 4.8 rests on 118 ratings, but the reviews people actually wrote run 2016 to 2025, with most of the detailed ones from 2016–2018. For a Westford-area exterior repaint with trim and rot repair rolled in, this is a well-documented small crew with an active registration. Ask about the 2021 complaint, ask what "29 years" refers to, and ask for two recent local addresses you can go and look at.
