Snow sliding off a metal roof ripped one homeowner's deck off the house, and in a 2014 Houzz review that customer said Joe Lucey Carpentry removed the old deck, replaced the rotted sill with a new pressure treated one, and built a landing and stairs in its place. That 2014 customer also said the railing was designed so that, with 6 or so screws removed, a whole panel lifts off to give straight-ahead access to the door. The same 2014 customer said the company was not the lowest bidder and the price was more, but called the work well worth it. The company describes itself as a North Yarmouth general contracting company specializing in custom interior and exterior restoration and renovation, with over 20 years of experience in construction and renovation carpentry. A 2014 customer said Joe Lucey renovated their kitchen, installing all of the cabinets, prepping the floors and walls for tiling, doing all of the plumbing work, and completing the job on time. A 2014 reviewer said Joe designed and remodeled a bathroom that needed it after 30+ years, and that his overseeing of the job made working with the plumbers, electricians and bathroom supplier smooth. A 2014 reviewer said the company did a great deal of work repairing the exterior of four town house condominiums, where water had leaked into the sill area and caused rot. The 2014 reviewer whose bathroom was remodeled advised being up front and clear about timing commitments, calling Joe a busy guy.

I hired Joe Lucey Carpentry, Inc. to repair damage to my house that occurred when a large heavy snow-load avalanched off my metal roof an ripped my deck off the side of my house last winter. I learned that the deck had not been flashed properly, and water had been creeping in to rot my house sill year in and year out. Joe and his crew dismantled and removed the old deck, like it had never even been there. They painstakingly removed the remains of the sill, supported my house and replaced it with a new pressure treated sill. They applied membrane water proofing, house warp, repaired all the shingles damaged by the whole debacle. Then they built me a good sturdy landing and stairs to serve the door that opened on to the defunct deck. I also took this opportunity to have them replace my storm door, and they not only did a great job of that, they waterproofed the sill of the doorway, which had not been in the past, and found the steel entry door was ill-fitting and with a little shimming while they had things opened up for the storm door install, they corrected that door as well so no air leaks around the edges anymore. Every man who stepped foot on my property did so respectfully, they were well spoken, industrious. At the end of each day the job site was pristinely cleaned up. The craftsmanship is impressive. Since this landing is much smaller than the former deck, I worried about potential for getting furniture in or out of the house - they designed the railing to allow 6 or so screws to be removed and a whole panel can be lifted off to give full straight-ahead access to the door. It is so well incorporated into the design that you would not know it could even be removed. They reworked the downspout for my eves, which had been previously set up to accommodate the presence of the deck that was no longer present. It look great, works great. I am a big fan of This Old House - and that is a standard of workmanship that I aim for when I try to find people to work on my house. . This company gets my enthusiastic "This Old House" highest rating. They do not give their work away, and they were not the lowest bidder for my project, but I could tell by the quality of the estimate that this was not going to be the job they "say" they will do for X amount to get your business, then nickel and dime you once you are in the process for more money. The price was the price, it was more, but the work quality and the caliber of workers was well worth it. I will hire them again - and that truly IS the highest rating that can ever be given. And I will recommend them highly to anyone who is looking for an outstanding company committed to doing the job RIGHT, not cheap.
Joe and Company renovated our condominium about 10 years ago and have done smaller projects for us since. I'll keep it simple - our experience with Joe and every single person associated with him - employees and sub-contractors - has been exceptional. You name the quality: workmanship, craftsmanship, honesty, timeliness, care and cleanliness, whatever - Joe and crew will exceed your expectations. There's no need to look elsewhere.
Joe and his team did a great job remodeling our kitchen last year. it is much more functional and family friendly, and he even managed to get it done just in time for our big family Christmas party!
We can't say enough great things about Joe and his crew. He has done quite a bit of work for us, the largest project being a custom bath. He is dependable, easy to communicate with, can see your vision and make it come true. if we only had unlimited remodeling funds we would keep Joe and his crew busy all year long! Joe designed and remodeled a bathroom for us that, after 30+ years, needed it badly. He also helped us solve some structural and plumbing problems. Working with Joe's guys, the plumbers, electricians, and the bathroom supplier was made smooth and seamless by his overseeing of the job. With some basic reorientation of plumbing and electrical supply, and working around tricky slanted ceiling lines, we were able to solve the problems. Joe's folks are craftsmen of the highest order, we are thrilled with the results. Joe is honest, transparent, and writes a damn good estimate..and sticks to it! My only advice to Joe and clients is to be up front and clear about timing commitments..this is a busy guy! Communicate the constraints mutually! Very pleased with this and several other projects Joe has completed for us!
