John Barnes Construction

John Barnes Construction is an electrician working out of Swampscott whose Massachusetts electrician license (#13425) is verified active with the state. The business has pulled 167 building permits over the years — 14 of them in the last three years — almost all electrical work, spread across Nahant, Beverly, Lynn, Marblehead, Newburyport and Lowell. The one written review on file, from 2012, described John as prompt and detail-oriented, someone the customer trusted with an old house "without expensive surprises" after disappointing experiences with other companies. BuildZoom also states it verified a Massachusetts home improvement contractor license and a construction supervisor license as active, both under Barnes's name. Its records separately show four older licenses under the same name — a Newton electrical contractor registration, an earlier electrician license, a home improvement contractor registration and a construction supervisor license — as inactive or cancelled, the kind of licensing turnover that shows up over a long career rather than anything currently in force. For electrical work in particular, the licensing here is on solid footing and the permit trail runs deep; the written review record is thin and dated, so it's worth asking around locally or requesting references for anything beyond a routine electrical job.
