JR's Landscaping is a Stoughton, Massachusetts full-service landscaping company — mowing and seasonal clean-ups, planting and design, hardscape and masonry, drainage, irrigation, fertilization, and winter plowing and salting. Its own site says it is celebrating 28-plus years in business, and reviewers name Matthew Hrenko as the owner. Google publishes 4.8 stars from 85 ratings. The routine work draws steady, specific praise, and it is remarkably consistent: crew members are named again and again — Michael, Santo, Hector, Beto, Tom, Matt — for spring and fall clean-ups, mulch and edging, leaf removal and driveway plowing. A 2026 customer got an online quote back the same day and a follow-up call from the office manager within the hour. Another had two long drainage borders built that solved a runoff problem and "look like beds". Winter service comes up often: driveways cleared to the asphalt, garage approaches shovelled, one crew returning after an icy storm to salt. The complaints are the part to read carefully, because they are not about the quality of the work — they are about money, and they recur across four years. In July 2026 a customer said they were writing to corroborate others: work on a brick walkway hit a genuine problem they were willing to pay for, but when they asked for a new estimate none was given, and the job ran days longer. In November 2025 another called the contract "sneaky, misleading, and not clear at all" and said they were charged an extra $160 with no extra work done. In September 2024 a third described "misleading and tricky estimates" where a service they believed was covered turned out not to be. In January 2024 a fourth said that after cancelling mid-October the company kept cutting the grass three times a month rather than the twice they had asked for. Four reviewers over four years, all describing the same thing: what was agreed and what was billed came apart. Against 85 ratings averaging 4.8 that is a minority, and the crews clearly do good work — but the pattern is specific and consistent enough to plan around. If you hire them, get the scope and the price in writing before anything starts, insist on a written change order the moment anyone says they have hit a problem, and confirm in writing how a cancellation takes effect.
“JR’s Landscaping was started in 1998 when the owner was still in high school, doing lawn work and projects for neighbors and family friends.”
Very satisfied with the service provided!! I requested a quote online and received it the same day. The following day I got a call from the office asking if I had any questions, which I did. The office manager said she would look into it and called me back within the hour with all my questioned answered! Very impressed with the quality of service not to mention the look of my yard!.. Quick, precise, attention to detail, and friendly staff. I even received a thank you card! Needless to say I suggested my sister to use Jrs landscaping for her mulch installation.
Amazing team!. They were so helpful and patient with my questions throughout the process. Very upfront and honest about all the costs. I am super satisfied with the results.
Very professional and timely! Got everything i needed done and were super upfront with all the pricing. My yard has never looked better. Will 100% be continuing services with them
I’m leaving this review to corroborate what some others have said about this company being untrustworthy and misleading. If you get work done by this company and they say they encountered a problem, demand the work stop until you receive a change order. They did work on my brick walkway and encountered a legitimate problem I was happy to pay an additional cost for. However, he told me the extra work would spill into one extra day and was no big deal. When I asked for a new estimate he wouldn’t give me one (my mistake trusting him clearly.) When they finished days later, they just left without saying a word or giving me a final walkthrough. Then he tried charging me more than double the price of my initial invoice (over three thousand dollars) but said he was giving me a “discount” that ended up still being double my initial invoice. No change order was ever given and he tried to charge a 95% price increase after his discount. I offered to meet in the middle and got nowhere. I did not pay that and he ended up agreeing to a much more fair price, in the middle, after I had to send a demand letter. Also, they left a ton of debris behind (photo attached) even though they charged me a clean up fee for it. I have a two year old son I found running in the yard with a piece of sharp broken brick. And instead of admitting that was a mistake or taking any accountability, he told me that that just proves there were unforeseen conditions they had to deal with. And one last thing. After a bunch of emails he threatened to put a lien on my house, send collections after me, and CC’d an email with a name and “law” at the end of it. I thought he was adding legal representation but I was wrong I guess, it’s a Ty Law reference apparently. Just wanted to share that in case it confuses anyone else too. Don’t be worried, it’s just a personal email.
They did a great job! Really neatened up the flower beds and even got the weeds that were sticking out of my stone wall. Lawn looks great, very neat !
