Seven hundred and sixteen Google ratings averaging 4.8 is a lot of road behind a heating company, and the reviews that make it up read almost interchangeably: the technician arrived on time, explained the problem, fixed it. The same first names keep coming back — Justin, Matt, Michael, Pete, Rudy, Jessie — which is what a settled service crew looks like from the outside. Key works out of Exeter, and its New Hampshire paperwork holds up: the company's mechanical business licence is active in the state registry, as is the gas fitter licence held by owner Jon Sherrill. Its BBB profile is accredited and graded A+, and lists 24-hour service among what the company offers. The routine work is where that record is built. A homeowner whose water heater failed had it not just replaced the same afternoon but upgraded. When a blower motor turned out to be the fault, the company checked with the manufacturer before ordering, then sent a technician the day the parts landed. On an AC job in 2024 that grew past what was quoted, the technician stayed late, called in a second pair of hands, and came back on his day off ahead of a heat wave. Arrivals get a text with an ETA. The complaints run the other way, and they cluster on the big installs. In November 2025 a Lake Winnipesaukee homeowner wrote that a geothermal replacement — two heat pumps and the storage tanks — had taken eight months to sort out programming issues, still had unresolved plumbing leaks, had burned out zone circulator pumps because the system was never purged after the install, and had left an 8,500-square-foot house with no heat. In a 2023 review, a different customer said a quote promised in a few days had not arrived after a week and a half and one follow-up call. One more thing belongs on the table: in May 2026 a commenter on r/newhampshire called the company shady and said it had been sued a number of times. That is a single anonymous line, attached to no job, date or outcome, and nothing else here speaks to it — treat it as a question to ask, not a finding. For a tune-up, a repair or a mini-split install, this is a deep and steady record. For a large geothermal or whole-system project, get the commissioning in writing: purging, programming, and who owns the problem if it is still not right in six months.
“Heritage is trash also avoid Key HVAC they're shady af been sued a number of times. I'd stay away from East Coast HVAC too last I heard they had some real shady characters working for them. Abbot HVAC in Exeter is a good small local company that does good work for reasonable prices.”
Have been with Key from original install through maintenance/repair/cleaning. Nothing but good things to say about them!
The technician was very nice and respectful of our home! He was very thorough with his job and was able to give us a lot more information with our mini split and what was wrong with it. I’m very happy with the service he provided and glad he was able to give us some information on becoming customers with key heating!
Will was fast, efficient, knowledgeable and appreciated, he did a fantastic job installing the new unit.
Justin was knowledgeable, patiently answered/ explained our questions and very respectful. Much appreciated!!!
Rudy was fantastic. He was very good at explaining what he was doing and why. He helped my parents feel at ease and got everything back up and working perfect. I would recommend him 100%.
