Lancaster Home Remodeling is a one-person sole proprietorship in Natick run by John Lancaster, with his wife Kim handling scheduling and client communication. Its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, number 138300, is verified active against the state registry in John Lancaster's own name, and the BBB gives the business an A+ though it is not an accredited member. The work is residential remodeling and additions — kitchens, bathrooms, basements, decks and garages. Across fifty ratings, all five stars, the same picture keeps forming. John is on site himself rather than handing the job to subcontractors: a 2022 client on a major architect-designed redesign wrote that he was there every day, kept the schedule, and caught things the architect and engineers had missed. A 2025 client described him noticing a small detail nobody else would have seen and rebuilding it until it was right. A 2024 client said the pair do most of the work themselves. The second theme is communication, and specifically Kim's. Reviewers describe daily notice of when John would arrive, quick email replies, and — in one 2023 account — a heads-up that nobody would be working the next day so the family could keep their dog home and save on daycare. A 2023 kitchen and primary-bath client working through pandemic supply-chain delays said John reworked around them without compromising finishes or the budget. Repeat business is unusually visible: separate 2025, 2023 and 2021 reviewers describe fourth, third and third projects with the company. Job sizes on file run from a shed finish-out to a $25,000 job, a $70,000 job and a $90,000 kitchen and master bath renovation. Specific work described includes a gut renovation of a 1926 Colonial's kitchen, a deck built to follow a sloping yard, a full primary-bathroom gut, an addition with laundry, home office and bathroom, and a basement where John chased down an unrelated bulkhead leak that was not part of the job. Two practical notes. The company's stated tenure disagrees with itself — Angi and HomeAdvisor say 25 years of experience while the BBB record gives 10 years and a 2016 business start — and its Angi page says it is booking projects for Spring/Summer 2027, so this is not a contractor to call for near-term work. The reviews also all come from one syndicated Angi/HomeAdvisor listing rather than several independent platforms. For a planned kitchen, bathroom, basement or addition in Natick and the surrounding MetroWest towns, this is a registry-licensed, owner-on-site operation with a deep run of specific, repeat-client accounts. Ask about the schedule first.
Working with John and his team was an absolute pleasure. I truly can't speak highly enough of their professionalism and dedication. Kim's communication about John and the rest of the team was also outstanding—clear, timely, and helpful throughout. John stood out for his flexibility and responsiveness, always ready to answer questions or consider suggestions. Fortunately, our project only encountered a few minor curveballs, all of which were handled smoothly and confidently. What impressed me most was John's pride in his work. One day, he noticed a small detail that most wouldn't have caught—but it bothered him enough to rebuild it until it was perfect. That kind of care and commitment is exactly what you want in someone working on your home.
John and Kim have delivered what we asked for as always in the several years that we have known them. Our backyard is not flat and John built a solid deck in harmony with the ground inclination, the house style and the fence. Kim has provided support on all small modifications of the project and kept us updated on John's daily arrival and activity. We are very satisfied with the results.
John and his crew do great work. John's carpentry work is excellent. His sub-contractors meet all of his specifications and are dedicated to a job well done. John and Kim are very easy to work with and communicate well through the entire project. We will definitely use Lancaster Home Remodeling again!
This was our 4th project with Lancaster Home Remodeling and as we have had in the past, it was a great experience with wonderful results! This time our project was the addition of a laundry space, home office, and bathroom and the addition turned out amazing! John and Kim are wonderful and easy to work with and communicate well throughout. We highly recommend them to anyone in the area looking to do work on their home!
John and Kim were a pleasure to work with. They communicated well and were very responsive whenever I had questions, both before and during my project. The quality of John's work was excellent and his dedication to getting the job done as quickly as possible, even in the face of some very cold weather, was impressive.
