Laurie's Certified Construction is a Colchester, Vermont builder that, on Houzz, describes itself as a design/build company focused on interior and exterior renovations and additions. Its website calls it family-owned and claims 40 years in business. A 2021 customer said the company replaced two failing decks with patios, and said communication lagged during material and staff shortages until Laurie offered bi-weekly email updates. A 2021 customer wrote that it was the third big job the company had done for them. A 2025 customer said Laurie and Eric took basic plans and turned them into a three-season enclosed porch. A 2026 customer said they worked with the company and crew to finish a basement. A 2025 customer who hired the company to rebuild a failed foundation said the job was never supervised and ran months late, with the subcontractor often working one or two days a week. That 2025 customer said the work did not follow the engineering plans and the concrete patch did not match the first batch. In a September 2024 Reddit thread, a commenter who had heard good things about Laurie's wrote, "I did not experience good things."
“We have been warned multiple times by various contractors we have hadby to avoid Laurie's.”
“Agree on Laurie's. I'd heard good things. I did not experience good things.”
“Laurie’s certified (out of touch husband wife duo”
“I’ve heard good things about Laurie’s construction. Owned by Laurie... a woman”
Had a great experience finishing a basement with Laurie's Certified and crew!
I hired Laurie’s Certified Home Construction to rebuild a failed foundation. It was a difficult project, but it was never supervised, despite my repeated requests for someone to review the workmanship. I understand the family was dealing with health issues, but the lack of oversight led to very poor results and months of delays. The subcontractor they used, Fenton Earthworks, often only worked one or two days a week, leaving our house open to weather and wildlife for nearly five months. When the house was jacked up, a proper sill plate with a foam barrier was never installed, so the home remains drafty. The gaps between the two sections of the house were also never sealed until we insisted someone come look at it. The work did not follow the engineering plans. Different materials were used, and we were told they were “comparable,” but based on the issues we’re living with, we do not feel they are. When Laurie’s finally came to inspect, they agreed the work was sub-par and sent the subcontractor back. Even then, the fix was poor; the new concrete patch didn’t match the first batch in color or texture and was never corrected. This was a major project for us, and we are very disappointed in the quality and the outcome. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this company. UPDATE: Fact, No one from Laurie's every visited the job site until I withheld payment. They came back and fixed what they could and I made full payment asking for a discount because the work was so poor. She declined to offer a discount. Now that the cold weather is here it is even more obvious that the foundation was never properly sealed. The only mismanagement was their lack of management on this job.
Laurie’s Certified Construction is an outstanding and very professional construction company located in Colchester, Vermont. I hired Laurie’s Certified because I was blown away by its commitment to professionalism, high standards for construction quality and its first class workmanship. This Vermont company is simply the best in what it does: making customers happy and satisfied and producing outstanding construction results. The company owners, Laurie and Eric, have grown their local, Vermont business into a highly sought-after construction company with expertise in all things construction from project design to finish carpentry. They specialize in customer satisfaction, outstanding client communication, quality building materials, and expert workmanship. They are simply the best in Chittenden County. I could not be more pleased with my new three season enclosed porch. I learned of Laurie’s Certified from its celebrated reputation in our area; but I truly did not expect the high quality of workmanship and high quality materials in my finished porch. My new porch is the talk of the neighborhood with many neighbors stopping by to check it out. My porch has truly turned out to be an amazing project. It has already added value and functionality to my home. I submitted some basic enclosed porch plans to them; but Laurie and Eric took my basic plans and turned them into so much more. They simply know the construction business. Expert design capabilities, vast construction experience and good Vermont common sense are part of this company’s culture and DNA. This construction company has the highest ratings from the Burlington branch of the Better Business Bureau(BBB). They be can be trusted with your construction project. I trusted them with my porch project and I could not be happier. I enthusiastically award Laurie’s Certified Construction five Google stars: ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. They earned every single star. Paul Corologos
Professional team & beautiful work! Laurie really helped me out and went the extra mile when I needed her help the most. Will definitely recommend to all of my loved ones!
My wife and I had never used a construction company before so we shopped around a bit when we were having our two failing decks replaced with patios. Most of the contractors we contacted never returned our calls. Of the two that did respond, Laurie, Eric, and Jade of Laurie’s Certified Construction took the time to go thru each part of the project onsite and came up with some useful suggestions that we hadn’t thought of. The price quoted from Laurie’s was compatible with that of the other company. Unfortunately, our timing wasn’t great: Covid was rampant, building materials were in short supply with long delivery delays, there was a staff shortage, and scheduling conflicts. This was probably the only minor criticism we might have- the communication during this time wasn’t great. At first, we were informed that work couldn’t start until materials were onsite- so we went and bought pavers delivered to our house. Once we had the materials, staff shortage and scheduling became an issue. We wouldn’t hear anything for weeks unless we’d email or call to get an update. Finally, Laurie volunteered to email us an update on a bi-weekly basis- which greatly helped us schedule the rest of our lives. Once the work started everything went very well. At this point, Jade had started to handle most of the scheduling and communications with us. She was very good and prompt at answering our questions and keeping us informed on the project. Gary, Zack, and their team tore down the old decks, put in the new patios, replaced some beams, and did some work in the basement. They were great: they understood exactly what our vision was and had some good suggestions\enhancements. They were very knowledgeable and explained each step of the process to us. They worked well together and each day they accomplished at least one of the many steps of the project. They cleaned up well and even threw some grass seed over any areas that their equipment may have hurt the grass. Another team came in and cut back part of our roof- they worked quickly and pretty much independently. Jade scheduled Matt the electrician to come and rewire some lights and outlets that had been on the decks. Matt had to crawl through a small crawl space to rewire switches inside the house rather than where they had been. He explained what he was going to do and did it well. Finally, Eric came and put the final touches on the roof cutback and filled in some open spaces. We are extremely happy with the outcome of the work that Laurie’s Certified Construction did for us.
