Seventy-two building permits, and a striking share of them carry a Marblehead address — second and third storey additions on Stevens Rd, a two-car garage and breezeway on Sparhawk Ter, kitchen and bathroom renovations on Story Trail, deck repairs on Garfield St and Nahant St. Leland M. Hussey Contracting works out of Lynn, and Marblehead is plainly its home turf. The jobs are substantial. BuildZoom puts the typical permit value at about $93,200, with values running from $5,000 up past a quarter of a million, and the firm's own Houzz page quotes a job range of $4,000 to $1.5 million. Twelve permits were pulled in the last three years, so this is a business still working — even though nothing new has been written about it online since December 2020. What customers did write, they wrote in detail. In a 2016 review a couple described a three-month overhaul of their second floor with a toddler and a pregnancy in the house, and credited the crew with containing dust to the work zone and sweeping up daily. Another that year had a kitchen and bathroom remodelled in an old house, and said that when hidden problems surfaced, Lee laid out the range of options rather than steering toward the most expensive one. A December 2020 client, on a second job with the firm, described a bay window repaired and condo windows replaced with a named lead carpenter walking them through the choices. Reviewers keep naming individuals — Marcone, Azriel, Jamison, Azzie, Kermit, Roberto — which is not how invented praise usually reads. The licensing needs a question before you sign. Houzz publishes construction supervisor licence CS-032197 for the company, and BuildZoom says it checked that number as active in June 2026 — but a construction supervisor licence covers structural work, not the separate home improvement contractor registration a homeowner's protections run through. BuildZoom lists that registration, number 101743, as inactive and at one point cancelled, and then contradicts itself lower down the same page by describing both numbers as active. Neither claim has been checked against the state registry here. This is the firm to talk to for a Marblehead addition, a garage, a whole-floor overhaul or a period-house kitchen — the permit history says they have done exactly that, repeatedly, for years. Ask them for the current status of both licence numbers directly from the state before work starts, and ask for a reference from a job finished in the last year, since the written accounts are all older than that.

We hired Leland's company to help us fix a bay window and replace windows in our condo. That's the 2nd time we've worked with them. They were very professional, from the initial contact and quote process all the way to the installation on side. Marcone was the lead during the work and took great care of us. He spent time explaining us what was going on, give us options when choices had to be made. The work was of quality and they paid attention to details. Would work with them again in a heartbeat.

Lee did a major renovation of our kitchen and great room last year. The work was absolutely top notch. His rates were competitive. His crew were polite, professional, and pleasant to be around. This is key when having workers in your home for several months. Lee pays attention to detail and understands what works and what doesn't. When input was needed on major decisions, he was able to contribute in a way that was helpful, yet made us feel like the decision came from us uninfluenced. There really were no major issues. While every project will have it's snafu(s), ours were minimal at best and were resolved immediately. In addition to our absolutely beautiful kitchen and great room that we now enjoy immensely, we are also overjoyed that we have "our contractor" for any future projects.

Lee Hussey had previously renovated a spare bedroom in our house into a study, complete with fireplace, which we were very happy with, so we went back to him when we needed an outdoor patio/deck. Azriel Shiloh was the project manager and he was very helpful and responsive. He also is extremely professional. The project was done quickly, on time, within budget, and the results were beautiful. Azriel also has a great feel for design and gave us some suggestions that we incorporated into the final plan. We enjoy that patio every day!

Leland Hussey Contracting did an excellent job remodeling our kitchen and bathroom. The quality of the work was excellent and the team was responsive to the tweaks we wanted to make along the way. We live in an old house and during the process uncovered issues that would have added to the cost of the job. Lee always presented us with the range of options and never pushed us toward the most expensive solution. We also enjoyed working with Shannon Croft a design firm that partners with Lee on many jobs. The crew was respectful and friendly, making it not as hard to have a bunch of strangers in the house for many weeks. We are very pleased with the work and highly recommend Lee and his team.

We have worked with Lee and his team on gut remodels of a bathroom and our kitchen. They and the subs they used were great to work with and did very nice work
