M&M Construction Landscaping and Masonry is a Dorchester family outfit — Modesto and his sons and crew — and the thing homeowners write about most is stonework: front and back stairs, walkways, repointed brick, retaining walls and patios. The written record runs from 2021 to November 2024 and is overwhelmingly positive. A homeowner writing in September 2022 had two walkways and two sets of stairs installed and described the job as "phenomenal from the quote, to demolition, to job completion", with the crew arriving on time daily; another in July 2022 praised the artistic design of the stone stairs and the sturdy railings that followed. In August 2022 a reviewer had front brick stairs repointed and sealed and a rear walkway built and sealed, all on a free estimate covering labour and material, and said the job finished on time. The company works well beyond masonry. In November 2024 a homeowner with a foundation leak said M&M quoted about a third of a competing estimate for roughly the same scope — a shorter 10-year guarantee — then sealed the foundation, installed a French drain, buried the gutter leaders, and replanted the shrubs and grass; the same customer later hired them for interior repairs after a plumbing problem involving sheetrock removal, carpentry, water mitigation and painting, and reported that although the damage made it run long, the price stayed at the quote. Decks and porches recur too, including a wood-to-composite deck rebuild in August 2024 and a front porch repair in September 2024 that a customer said the crew worked weekends and a holiday to finish. Angi and HomeAdvisor both publish the same 4.8 out of 5 from 71 ratings — one syndicated listing, not two independent ones — and Thumbtack shows 5.0 from 7. The complaints are mild: a 2023 reviewer wrote only "I wish I had a better experience", and a 2022 customer's single gripe was how long it took to get started, which they attributed to the company being in demand. The BBB lists the business as accredited with an A+ grade and records a Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs licence, 185974, running to July 2027. This is a good fit for masonry, hardscape, decks and drainage work around Boston, and the pricing feedback is consistently favourable. Two things to confirm when you call: current licence and insurance directly with the company, and a realistic start date, since scheduling was the one thing customers pushed back on.
I found M&M Construction on Angi. We had a leak in the basement from our foundation. I called two companies to get an estimate and M&M came in about a third of the price for roughly the same work, though their guarantee was about half (10 years) of the other company. Modesto and his sons were excellent--professional, prompt, detailed, and efficient. They sealed the foundation, installed a French drain, and buried the leaders so the gutters wouldn't deposit water along the foundation. They even replanted all of our shrubbery and laid down loom and grass seed to regrow the grass alongside of the house. They regularly communicated via text so I always knew what to expect. I later hired them to do interior work after a plumbing problem which they did once again with excellence. Modesto found the problem and suggested ways to mitigate future problems without trying to upsell me. This project involved pulling out sheetrock and finished carpentry, water mitigation, rebuilding walls, carpentry, and painting. Though it took them longer than expected because of the extent of the damage, he charged the same price that he had quoted. The work was excellent. This company will be on speed dial.
Modesto and his team performed timely work. Were careful is their work performance and clean-up. Some unexpected issues developed but a suitable solution was arrived at which was agreeable to everyone.

Modesto and his crew worked hard and completed our porch repair in a timely manner despite juggling other jobs (worked weekends and holiday). We are very satisfied with our beautiful new front porch and will continue to hire them for future projects.
