M. F. Reynolds has been building additions, whole-house renovations, and historic restorations in the Medford area since 1976, with 91 recorded building permits under its name. The company holds an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration. The written reviews on file run from 2014 to 2020, and the pattern that stands out is repeat business: one homeowner brought the crew back for exterior and landscaping work, then three bathroom renovations and storm-damage repairs, over about two years. A 2017 review describes a full renovation of a 140-year-old townhouse, with design work coordinated alongside an outside architect and close attention paid to the home's original woodwork and plaster. A 2014 review credits the same team, led by David Dankens, with carpentry, painting, and gutter repairs the homeowner had struggled to find anyone else willing to take on. Worth asking about directly: a 2020 review describes a major kitchen renovation where the exterior door and a granite countertop were installed incorrectly — the countertop cracked afterward — and says repeated requests for a fix were turned down. It's the one detailed complaint in an otherwise positive file, though it's now several years old. This looks like a fit for a homeowner planning a substantial project — an addition, a full remodel, a historic restoration — rather than a quick repair, given the scale of the work described above. We carried out the project management and design on this property and hired MFR to be the contractor and were thrilled with their professionalism throughout. They had even worked with the previous owners of the property and remembered it well, even having carried out work approximately 17 years before! The entire team were a pleasure to deal with and we look forward to bringing them onboard another project in the near future. I would highly recommend them.
We could not be more disappointed with the work of MF Reynolds. They did a major kitchen renovation for us and while many parts of their work were excellent, they improperly installed the main exterior door to the kitchen and a granite countertop. The countertop has since cracked badly. A stone specialist inspected it for us and determined it was not installed correctly. We had a Pella door specialist determine the same thing with our door. We tried multiple times to have Mr. Dankins repair these faults, but he refused, choosing to blame us instead.
Awesome
MF Reynolds is incredible. David Dankens worked free of charge with us for a couple of years before we hired MFR to complete a renovation. He accompanied us a handful of times to look at homes together and provide a quiet assessment of the 'health' of a home (e.g. electrical looks old, foundation looks off, plumbing needs major overhaul) - the types of things a buyer won't necessarily know. When we finally settled on a home we hired MFR to complete our renovation. The work is incredibly fast and high quality. The price of course reflects that but we have neighbors that recently completed a renovation and chose a more moderately priced contractor for a medium-sized renovation. Two+ year nightmare. They now conclude they likely spent far more on their "moderate price" contractor than they would have spent with MFR. MFR had no hidden costs, predicted timeline was spot on, work is top-notch. Highly recommend for anyone who doesn't want any unpredictability during the process, or anyone who wants high quality contracting done swiftly.
Beyond phenomenal! We did a major renovation of a 140 year old Townhouse. Design input in conjunction with our architect Diane Lim (Lim Design Studio, Inc) was exceptional. The improvements and updating blended perfectly with the existing bones of the house. Incredible care was taken during construction to protect the delicate wood and plaster work that was already in place. The budgeting process, accuracy of cost projections & timeline and employment of superb subcontractors gave us confidence through the project. The result was stunning and exceeded our very high expectations. There aren't enough superlatives that we can use to describe how happy we are. For all of our planned future projects there is only one call we will make, to M.F. Reynolds.
