Main & Company is a Beverly outfit built for the big job, and its permit trail says so more clearly than any brochure. Behind the name is Todd Main Company, Inc., a seven-employee corporation with Todd Main as president, described on BuildZoom as a Master Carpenter. The company says it has served the North Shore and Cape Ann since 1986; the BBB file puts the business start at 1990 and counts 36 years. Either way it is a long-established shop, and its BBB profile has carried an A+ with accreditation since December 2011. The work runs wide. Twenty-eight permits cover additions and second levels, whole-house renovations, kitchens and baths, decks and porches, wood, stone and tile floors, and finish carpentry — plus a commercial side, including repeated build-out and roofing work at Henry's Market on Cabot Street in Beverly and a 2021 permit in Marblehead to repair a rotted rear deck structure on Washington Street. If you want a specialist for one small task, this is not that shop. What nobody has done is write about them. There are no customer reviews on any platform we could find — no stars, no comments, nothing describing how a job actually went. A BBB A+ measures complaint handling and disclosure, not finish quality or whether a schedule held, and the permit record shows scope and scale but not satisfaction. On licensing, BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, #119972, issued 09-27-2025, and separately shows a cancelled Massachusetts Sheet Metal Business record with no number attached. The right call here is a homeowner planning a substantial renovation or addition on the North Shore who wants a firm with decades of permitted work at that scale. Before you sign, ask for the current HIC registration number and check it yourself with Consumer Affairs, ask what the cancelled sheet-metal record was, and — since there is no public review record — ask for three recent clients whose projects matched the size of yours.
