Marine Home Improvement is a Hanover-based roofing and siding contractor run by owner Michel Trankels (called Mike, Michael, or Mikel across different reviews), and the volume of detailed, specific accounts — 4.9 stars from 120 Google ratings and 4.7 from 244 on Angi — is hard to ignore either way you read it. Most of the record is strongly positive and specific: reviewers describe complete roof replacements finished in a single day, a three-floor colonial resided from rotted original wood to Hardie board with 18 new windows, and a gazebo reshingled in red cedar. In a 2023 review, one customer described Trankels personally helping navigate city zoning complications during a back porch demolition and rebuild. A local realtor team named the company their go-to contractor for client referrals, and another contracting firm subcontracted them for a roofing job near a client's home. Several reviewers describe using the company multiple times over the years and referring friends and family. The Massachusetts home improvement contractor license tied to this business is registry-verified but currently expired. The company's BBB profile carries an A+ accredited rating. The record isn't uniform, though, and the concerns are specific enough to take seriously. In a 2019 Angi review, a customer described improperly flashed chimneys and dormers, a crew that didn't speak English, and the business skipping a required permit and asbestos test for the town. A separate 2019 Angi review described a Hardiplank siding job that began failing within a month, the owner declining to fix it, reported litigation from that customer and a neighbor, and an allegation — unverified here — that the owner and his staff had written most of the positive reviews themselves. Two 2018 Angi reviews describe a job left unsupervised after the deposit was paid with debris left behind, and a cedar-shingle siding job where the wrong shingles were delivered three times before the owner replaced the installation crew and corrected the work, though the timeline stretched to about six weeks. For a straightforward roof or siding replacement, the overwhelming majority of the written record — spanning 2021 through 2025 — points to a responsive owner and a clean, on-time crew. Given the license status and the older complaint cluster, it's worth confirming current licensing and getting a firm, written scope of work before signing on for a larger or more unusual project.
Excellent workmanship and service. The crew was very hardworking… from start to finish.
We had a great experience with Marine home improvement. They responded quickly and started the job within the agreed upon time frame. They replaced our roof and did this in one day and had a fair price. We will definitely be reaching out for our next project!
I had the pleasure of working with Mike, owner of Marine Home Improvement. He was incredibly responsive while I was helping my friend Dottie get her roof done. The price was right, and the quality of work was excellent. Highly recommend!
Mike & team were responsive, knowledgeable, professional, timely and respectful start to finish! Working with every contractors should be this easy…and fun! Thanks Mike for my beautiful new roof!
Choose Marine Home Improvement if you want to work with a serious contractor. A serious contractor is someone who confidently presents their industry knowledge and price point without turning it into a sales pitch. They listen to you, answer your questions thoughtfully, and don't try to upsell you on stuff you don't need. When Michel joined us for a free estimate, he took time to talk to both me and my wife equally to show us where the problems were, why they were problems, and what would happen if we didn't fix them. He laid out a fee and the cost per square foot of replacing potential rot along with an estimate for a separate issue that might be present. When his team came to do the labor, they sent me pictures of our stripped roof and explained what they would need to do about some issues along with the price to fix it. The price closely matched Michel's earlier estimate. Overall, his team was in and out in a day and now we have a beautiful new roof and peace of mind, all for what we think was a great price. I would use Marine Home Improvement again for other projects.
