120 Google reviews at 4.9 stars, 244 more on Angi at 4.7 — that's a wide footprint for a Hanover, Massachusetts roofer, and it isn't new. The Better Business Bureau lists Marine Home Improvement as a sole proprietorship opened in 2001, run by owner Michel Trankels (reviewers call him Mike); the company's own site claims a longer 33 years in the trade. Either figure points to a long-running, owner-operated shop built around asphalt shingle roof replacement and repair, with siding, windows and decking offered alongside, and GAF and James Hardie certifications behind the material work. What shows up again and again across Google, Angi, and Better Business Bureau reviews isn't one job so much as a pattern: Mike personally taking calls, showing up to estimates himself, and staying involved through a project rather than handing it off after the sale. That pattern isn't built on a handful of recent five-star ratings — the review history runs back to 2018 across six different sources, and the Better Business Bureau accreditation carries an A+ grade. It isn't spotless. Mixed in among the mostly positive Angi reviews are several detailed, first-hand complaints about botched flashing and siding installation, and about slow follow-up once a job was already paid for — specific enough to be worth weighing seriously rather than treated as noise. For a standard asphalt shingle roof replacement, the pattern favors them: an owner-run business with a long history and heavy review volume across independent platforms. For siding work — especially anything requiring careful material handling — it's worth asking directly who's on the crew and getting the callback policy for punch-list items in writing before signing.

We had a great experience with Marine home improvement. They responded quickly and started the job within the agreed upon time frame. They replaced our roof and did this in one day and had a fair price. We will definitely be reaching out for our next project!

I had the pleasure of working with Mike, owner of Marine Home Improvement. He was incredibly responsive while I was helping my friend Dottie get her roof done. The price was right, and the quality of work was excellent. Highly recommend!

Choose Marine Home Improvement if you want to work with a serious contractor. A serious contractor is someone who confidently presents their industry knowledge and price point without turning it into a sales pitch. They listen to you, answer your questions thoughtfully, and don't try to upsell you on stuff you don't need. When Michel joined us for a free estimate, he took time to talk to both me and my wife equally to show us where the problems were, why they were problems, and what would happen if we didn't fix them. He laid out a fee and the cost per square foot of replacing potential rot along with an estimate for a separate issue that might be present. When his team came to do the labor, they sent me pictures of our stripped roof and explained what they would need to do about some issues along with the price to fix it. The price closely matched Michel's earlier estimate. Overall, his team was in and out in a day and now we have a beautiful new roof and peace of mind, all for what we think was a great price. I would use Marine Home Improvement again for other projects.
