That is the shape of a one-man remodeler working the Marblehead-Beverly stretch of the North Shore, taking the jobs that sit between a handyman call and a gut renovation. BuildZoom lists him as a sole owner-operator with no crew. No customer has written anything about him anywhere. BuildZoom says plainly it has received no reviews, so there is no rating to weigh and nothing to read about how the jobs actually went. Worth knowing what BuildZoom's score of 93 is and isn't: it is calculated from permits and licence status, not from anything a homeowner said. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #202946, issued in August 2025, which it says it checked as active in March 2026 — and separately an older, different registration, #193335, marked inactive and described as having been cancelled at some point. Neither was confirmed against the state registry here, and the licence holder is recorded under the bare personal name "Matt Boulay", so ask for the current registration number and check it yourself at the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation before signing. One other oddity to raise directly: BuildZoom also attributes two 2018 Haverhill permits for installing a gas-fired boiler to this name — a plumbing permit and a gas fitter permit — at an address the site doesn't print. That is a trade well outside the carpentry and remodel work everything else here describes, and BuildZoom matched it on name alone. If gas or plumbing work is part of your project, confirm who would actually be doing it and under whose licence. He is a plausible call for a bathroom retile, a kitchen refresh short of a gut, or a porch enclosure in Marblehead or Beverly — the exact jobs the permits show. Go in expecting to do your own reference-checking, because you would be the first person on record to describe the experience.
