A kitchen more than 200 years old, in a footprint that left no room for error: in a May 2022 review, a homeowner describes the original plank floorboards being pulled up, a new ceiling built, and the floor and fireplace hearth tiled. Old houses and whole-room rebuilds are what this Wilmington company gets called for. Sean McCabe runs it. Its Better Business Bureau profile describes a single-employee LLC started 2/6/2016 and run by him, graded A+, and the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#192639) is active on the state registry. Angi and HomeAdvisor list basement remodels, bathroom remodels, kitchen remodels and major renovations. Two of the reviewers are in the trade themselves, hiring him for someone else's house — a May 2022 reviewer brought him in for a large basement renovation plus smaller projects at a client's home, and an October 2021 reviewer's client had a basement, kitchen, fireplace and closet renovation done. Commercial work runs alongside the residential: an April 2022 customer used him for renovations and remodels at three different properties, and a January 2024 reviewer had worked with him on Boston-area commercial renovation and remodeling over several years. Smaller jobs show up too. A January 2024 homeowner hired him on a neighbor's recommendation to build a custom media center and shelves to challenging specs, with a carpenter and painters brought in for it, and a June 2024 condo owner had a bathroom renovated along with other improvements. A July 2024 customer called Sean and his crew honest and dependable, and said they listened to make sure the job was done the way the customer wanted. The newest review, from November 2024, is a single star and blunt: stay away, you will have regrets. The other ten accounts are five stars, and Google averages 4.7 across 14 ratings. Two other things are worth pinning down. Angi's page gives two different answers for how long the company has been at this — 17 years of experience in its blurb, 25 years in its business highlights — against a BBB profile that dates the LLC to 2/6/2016. And HomeAdvisor's 5.0 from four ratings is the same four Angi reviews, not a second set. For a gut renovation in an older home — a kitchen, a basement, a whole floor — reviewers here describe detailed work and one person to deal with throughout. Ask Sean who will actually be on site and which trades he brings in, and get the years-in-business question answered directly before you sign.
Don't go anywhere near this company if you know what's good for you. You will have regrets.
Sean and his crew are honest and dependable, and they genuinely care that you are satisfied with the finished job. They were very professional and listened to the customer's feedback to make sure everything was done to make sure I was satisfied with the job in refinishing my basement. They were very approachable and communicated on a timely basis either by phone or text message. If a supplier sent the wrong item, they made sure it was corrected right away. I would highly recommend them and will use them for any future jobs.
I hired McCabe General Contracting to renovate my bathroom and make some other home improvements. Sean and his team's attention to detail and quality produced a beautiful bathroom and enhancements to my condo that have made my home so much nicer to live in. I appreciate Sean's ability to find solutions to problems, to listen, communicate, be flexible, and to ensure every detail is done correctly. He and his team were pleasant to have around, respectful of my house, showed up on time and when they were expected, and cleaned up at the end of each day. Finally, I appreciate that my project came in on budget and on time. I will definitely use McCabe General Contracting again and have already and will continue to recommend Sean to anyone looking for a good GC.
We hired Sean based on the recommendation form our neighbor, who had used him on several projects. Sean built a custom media center and shelves, with some challenging specs. He brought in excellent carpenter and painters to the project. They all did fantastic work. Plus a bonus is that Sean had a cleaning crew come in to our home after the project was over. I would highly recommend. In fact we will be sending more projects his way.
