The people who write about Sean McCabe's crew mostly hired them more than once — designers running client projects, a commercial owner with three properties, a neighbor who saw the finished work next door and called. McCabe General Contracting works out of 191 Middlesex Ave in Wilmington. The BBB lists it as an LLC started in February 2016 with one employee on file and Sean McCabe as owner, and gives it an A+ without accreditation. The jobs described are whole-room and whole-house, not odd repairs. In a January 2024 review, the owner of an 1838 house itemized years of work: an upper rear deck, a dining room porch, a front dormer, an entire front and side façade re-clad in new clapboard, millwork around new Pella windows, real shutters, a rebuilt rear fence and a privacy gate. A May 2022 reviewer described converting a 200-year-old kitchen in a tight footprint — original plank floorboards lifted, a new ceiling, tiled floor and fireplace hearth, custom cabinetry, plumbing and electrical re-routed — and said the crew held to both timeline and cost. In 2024, another homeowner had a basement refinished and a third had a custom media center and shelving built, with carpenters and painters brought in for it. Google sits at 4.7 across 14 ratings; Angi and HomeAdvisor each show 5.0 from the same four reviews. The one dissent is a November 2024 Google review that says only "Don't go anywhere near this company if you know what's good for you." It names no project and gives no detail, but it is also the most recent thing anyone has written, and the written accounts here run 2021 to 2024. Two things worth sorting out before signing. The tenure claims don't line up: Angi's own page says 17 years of experience in its blurb and 25 in its highlights, while the BBB dates the LLC to 2016. And the licence — Angi and HomeAdvisor both list a Massachusetts trade licence numbered 192639 expiring January 2027, which is the directories' listing rather than a registry check, so ask to see the registration itself. For a kitchen, a basement build-out, or an old-house exterior that needs several trades coordinated, this is the kind of job customers keep describing them finishing. Ask for the licence and a reference from a project in the last year, and ask what happened behind that one-star review before you commit.

Don't go anywhere near this company if you know what's good for you. You will have regrets.
Sean and his crew are honest and dependable, and they genuinely care that you are satisfied with the finished job. They were very professional and listened to the customer's feedback to make sure everything was done to make sure I was satisfied with the job in refinishing my basement. They were very approachable and communicated on a timely basis either by phone or text message. If a supplier sent the wrong item, they made sure it was corrected right away. I would highly recommend them and will use them for any future jobs.
I hired McCabe General Contracting to renovate my bathroom and make some other home improvements. Sean and his team's attention to detail and quality produced a beautiful bathroom and enhancements to my condo that have made my home so much nicer to live in. I appreciate Sean's ability to find solutions to problems, to listen, communicate, be flexible, and to ensure every detail is done correctly. He and his team were pleasant to have around, respectful of my house, showed up on time and when they were expected, and cleaned up at the end of each day. Finally, I appreciate that my project came in on budget and on time. I will definitely use McCabe General Contracting again and have already and will continue to recommend Sean to anyone looking for a good GC.
We hired Sean based on the recommendation form our neighbor, who had used him on several projects. Sean built a custom media center and shelves, with some challenging specs. He brought in excellent carpenter and painters to the project. They all did fantastic work. Plus a bonus is that Sean had a cleaning crew come in to our home after the project was over. I would highly recommend. In fact we will be sending more projects his way.
I have worked with Sean over the last several years for all of my commercial renovation and remodeling projects in the Boston area. He and his team are one of the best I have worked with. They have great attention to detail, take the time to explain the work, are communicative throughout the entire project, and provide great final product. I will continue to use Sean for all work in the Boston area. You won't go wrong hiring Sean and his team for your next project.
