McCabe General Contracting is a one-man Wilmington LLC run by Sean McCabe, registered in February 2016 and working out of 191 Middlesex Ave. Homeowners hire him for whole-room renovation work — kitchens, baths, basements — and for built-in carpentry, with painters and carpenters brought onto the job as it needs them. The people who wrote about him describe the work in detail. A homeowner who converted a 200-plus-year-old kitchen in a tight footprint said in a 2022 review that the crew carefully pulled up the original plank floorboards, built a new ceiling, and tiled the floor and the fireplace hearth. Another 2022 account covers a large basement renovation plus smaller jobs around the same house, and a 2021 customer had a basement, kitchen, fireplace and closet done at once. A 2024 homeowner hired Sean on a neighbor's recommendation for a custom media center and shelves built to challenging specs, and credited the carpenter and painters he brought in. Older houses come up again. An Angi reviewer who owns an 1838 house wrote in January 2024 that they have been working with the company since 2015 and that neighbors ask for the same crew after seeing the results. Two commercial clients — one who used McCabe on three properties in 2022, another on repeat Boston-area projects through January 2024 — describe the same things their residential customers do: work explained before it starts, plans adapted mid-project, and messages answered. The one negative account is short and blunt. A November 2024 Google reviewer wrote "Don't go anywhere near this company if you know what's good for you. You will have regrets," and it stands alone among the eleven reviews on file from 2021 through 2024, which otherwise run five stars on Angi and HomeAdvisor and 4.7 on Google. Angi's own profile is also inconsistent about how long McCabe has been at this: the blurb says 17 years of experience while the business highlights say 25, and the Better Business Bureau dates the LLC to 2016. Massachusetts lists home improvement contractor registration 192639 as active, and the Better Business Bureau grades the business A+. If your project is a kitchen, bath or basement in an older New England house, or built-ins that have to be measured to the room, that is the work customers describe most; ask up front who from his crew will be on site and how the schedule is set, since the business is registered with a single employee and brings trades in per job.
Don't go anywhere near this company if you know what's good for you. You will have regrets.
Sean and his crew are honest and dependable, and they genuinely care that you are satisfied with the finished job. They were very professional and listened to the customer's feedback to make sure everything was done to make sure I was satisfied with the job in refinishing my basement. They were very approachable and communicated on a timely basis either by phone or text message. If a supplier sent the wrong item, they made sure it was corrected right away. I would highly recommend them and will use them for any future jobs.
I hired McCabe General Contracting to renovate my bathroom and make some other home improvements. Sean and his team's attention to detail and quality produced a beautiful bathroom and enhancements to my condo that have made my home so much nicer to live in. I appreciate Sean's ability to find solutions to problems, to listen, communicate, be flexible, and to ensure every detail is done correctly. He and his team were pleasant to have around, respectful of my house, showed up on time and when they were expected, and cleaned up at the end of each day. Finally, I appreciate that my project came in on budget and on time. I will definitely use McCabe General Contracting again and have already and will continue to recommend Sean to anyone looking for a good GC.
We hired Sean based on the recommendation form our neighbor, who had used him on several projects. Sean built a custom media center and shelves, with some challenging specs. He brought in excellent carpenter and painters to the project. They all did fantastic work. Plus a bonus is that Sean had a cleaning crew come in to our home after the project was over. I would highly recommend. In fact we will be sending more projects his way.
I have worked with Sean over the last several years for all of my commercial renovation and remodeling projects in the Boston area. He and his team are one of the best I have worked with. They have great attention to detail, take the time to explain the work, are communicative throughout the entire project, and provide great final product. I will continue to use Sean for all work in the Boston area. You won't go wrong hiring Sean and his team for your next project.
