McGee Construction is a West Gardiner site-work and aggregate business with a 3.5-star Google rating from 47 ratings. A recent customer who ordered 22 yards of 3/4 crushed stone said they received dirt, clay and cement that does not drain, and would not recommend the company for home projects or landscaping. In a 2025 review, a homeowner said McGee landscaped the lawn at their new build, that they paid an extra $1500 for a larger area to be grubbed and seeded, and that tractor treads and metal equipment pieces were left in the lawn. That reviewer said Mike McGee did not show up for a promised visit, and updated the review after McGee reseeded the lawn at its cost 13 months later. In a 2023 review, a reviewer who lives across the street from a job site said the company's dump trucks, subcontracted to deliver aggregate, damaged their asphalt driveway in 2022, and that the promised repair had not been made 15 months later. In a 2024 review, a resident of a neighborhood where the company laid water and sewer pipes said the pipes were dug up three times to fix leaks and the paving ran four weeks behind. In a 2022 review, a customer said the driver dropped the load where requested and the material was exactly as ordered. A 2022 reviewer praised its firewood and price. In a 2023 review, a customer described its loam as mostly clay, stumps and sand.

“McGee signed the agreement only after the city filed a lawsuit against his West Gardiner-based Steve McGee Construction last week.”
*Wanted to update* We ordered 22 yards of 3/4 crushed stone, and we got dirt, clay, and cement. Nothing about these stones are draining and we not just have a wet pile of whatever this is. Would NOT recommend these guys for any home projects/landscaping.
I have never had work done by them but this morning one of there workers In a white truck around 5.50 am on the back road headed from skowhegan going towards Waterville almost killed us. He passed us and another truck in front of us got close to 90 to 100 mph right before a very dangerous intersection. I wanted to call 911 right there because I guarantee this individual is going to hurt someone on the road some day soon. Horrible.
Update: McGee did come out and reseed my lawn at their cost, after 13 months of my continually reaching out to them. I am updating my review to reflect that the work was completed. I would suggest to any one looking for landscaping work to look elsewhere. McGee landscaped our lawn at our new build home. We paid an additional $1500 to McGee (on top of the cost of landscaping included in the building of the house) to have a larger area grubbed and seeded. Their work left much to be desired. Their equipment left tractor treads in our lawn and there was even metal equipment pieces left on my lawn. There was not any grubbing done between the trees, as had been part of the scope, and there was no grubbing or seeding done at the edge of my lawn by the road. Nothing has grown but weeds throughout my entire property, despite diligent watering on our part. There is a bush with a stump the diameter of a nickel growing in the middle of my front lawn even though I have tried to dug it out with post diggers twice. When I called and asked someone to come look at the property and discuss what could be done, Mike McGee told me he would be out that afternoon. He never showed up nor did anyone call me to say that no one would make it. The next morning I called again and spoke with Seth McGee. When I explained my concerns he was very defensive and said I was being unrealistic. I explained that if I pay thousands of dollars for work to be done then I except that work to be done, and be done correctly. McGee clearly does not feel the same way. He said he would come out at some point in the next few weeks but could not tell me when that time might be. He also said there is nothing that he would do. I will certainly be bringing my business elsewhere to correct the issues McGee left behind. I encourage any others looking to get landscaping work done to do the same.
I was at the alternate merge in Manchester when a McGee construction truck holding a load of aggregate tried to prevent me from entering behind the car in front of her. She illegally tried to push me off the road. At the following light we took a picture of the truck and license plate ending in --- C0S --- The female driver proceeded to ride our bumper, flip us off an honk at us at the red light intersection. Using construction vehicles to be aggressive and drive illegally on the road and risking lives by pushing people onto the shoulder is unacceptable business practices. Then proceeding to flip people off while on the clock. Absolutely the most unprofessional and dangerous actions taken on McGees employees part.
This company is unbelievable! They laid water pipes and sewer pipes in our neighborhood. Then they dig them up three times to fix the leaks. Now they our behind four weeks to pave their blunders. I would be embarrassed to be running that crew. I hope there is a finishing date clause.
