McKay's Plumbing & Heating says on its website that it provides plumbing services for home and business owners, and lists Penobscot, Blue Hill, Castine and Bucksport as its service area. Richard L. McKay II holds Maine HVAC license MS20005066, active on the state registry. A recent customer says McKay's did all the plumbing in their house, that much of the work was not to code, that four other professionals had to be called in to fix it, and that he refused to come back once the invoices were paid. A 2025 customer said the office quoted a $150 bill after the work and then charged $225 for reconnecting a hose, and that the company did not help when they called. A 2025 customer said itemized bills were highly upcharged, timeframes were never met and the workers did not clean up after themselves. A 2025 customer said the company responded quickly to a plumbing issue and that they were very satisfied with the work and the price.
Worse experience ever !!! MCKAYS PLUMBING is so so bad. He did all the plumbing in my house on BranchLake. He did so much work that was not in code and we’ve had to call 4 different professionals to come in and fix at great cost his work, since he refused ever to come back after all his invoices were paid !!! DO NOT EVER WORK WITH HIM THAT IS MY BEST ADVICE. 3 years of headaches
had an issue with some plumbing and they responded quickly and i was very satisfied with the work and the price. They were very professional and i would definitely use them again and recommend them
Hire them if you want everyone standing around on their phones and have to still pay them for it. Itemized bills highly up charged, timeframes NEVER met. Employees smell like beer and cigarette smoke. They don't clean up after themselves. Hire ANYONE but these guys. Especially if you don't wanna be overcharged, fast reliable service won't be found here. It's only a matter of time before they'll be filing for bankruptcy. Definitely plenty of others that will speak the same about this company. Owner is/was running under his own retired father's plumbing license because he himself couldn't pass the test (took it repeatedly). Seek other options trust me you won't regret it even if there is a wait it's not only gonna be cost effective but the service itself is worth the wait. Stay far far away from this company.
I was told by the office after the work the bill would be $150, then I got a $225 charger. All the did was reconnect a hose and it was a bad thermostat. That I replaced after, no hardware was installed by McKays. The didn't even need to check the whole system. When I called to discuss, they didn't help. Very dissatisfied.
