"Swarmed my house like bees" is how one homeowner described the Meadows crew arriving for a re-siding job in late 2024, and the image fits the whole record: big exterior jobs — siding, roofs, decks, trim — done by a full crew that works dawn to dusk and rakes the yard before leaving. Meadows Construction is a family outfit in Newburyport that says Mike Meadows started it in 1978; Mike still runs it, his son Jared is the project manager, and Beverly handles estimates in the office. It works Essex County from Newburyport and Amesbury down to Reading and Andover, and into southern New Hampshire. Across 29 Google ratings averaging 4.7 and 75 on HomeAdvisor averaging 4.9, the same specifics recur. Decks come up most: a wood deck swapped for Trex this July, a two-level deck, several rebuilt floors, each with the owner explaining material options first. Whole-house re-siding is the other big line — a 2024 customer's Everlast "blue spruce" siding with white trim, a $72,000 windows-and-siding job on HomeAdvisor, sheathing and clapboards replaced, PVC trim and reflashed dormers on a 40-year-old house. Roofs range from 1930s shingles on a single home to an 18-unit condominium complex, finished on schedule in early 2024. One 2023 reviewer compared quotes from three companies and found Meadows 25% below one of them; a 2024 customer said change orders were priced and explained as they came up, and another said a man was sent back for two small punch-list items. The complaints on Google are not about the work. Two reviewers in 2025 described a Meadows van cutting them off in traffic — one got the finger — and a Newbury homeowner seeking a full re-siding quote in January 2025 gave two stars despite a response within 24 hours and a walk-through two days later. Two older government records are worth knowing. Business Insurance reported that in July 2012 OSHA issued Meadows Construction a seven-item serious citation and a two-item repeat citation, $32,800 in proposed penalties, for violations including a lack of fall protection; the company contested it before the OSHA Review Commission. And Violation Tracker lists a $55,097 wage-and-hour penalty dated December 31, 2015, under the Davis-Bacon Act, which governs pay on federally funded projects. The company also litigated an insurance-notice dispute with Westchester Fire Insurance that reached the Massachusetts Appeals Court in 2022. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (157479) is active. For a deck, a re-side, a roof or an addition on the North Shore, Meadows is a crew people hire twice. Ask for the written estimate with material options, confirm who your project manager is, and ask how punch-list items are handled once the crew moves on.
