Ten homeowners have written about Mercurio Construction on Google since 2023, and nearly every one of them names the same person: Mike. That is the shape of this Wakefield company — a small general contracting outfit where the owner is the one answering the phone and walking the site. The jobs they get called for are big ones. A homeowner writing in January 2026 hired them to build a 1,000-square-foot accessory dwelling unit attached to a brick house, with extensive renovation of the original home running alongside it. A 2024 reviewer described a cape converted into a full two-story house in about six months. A 2023 customer added roughly 900 square feet and redid nearly every room — kitchen, three bathrooms, basement — plus new windows, roof, doors and siding. Kitchens turn up on their own too: one 2023 homeowner had theirs taken down to the studs. Schedule discipline is the thread running through the comments. Writing in 2024, one customer said crews arrived when they said they would and finished each task before leaving for the day, with the worksite kept neat; another that year credited a tight second-floor renovation delivered on time and on budget. A 2023 homeowner who stayed in the house through a 900-square-foot addition said the build was arranged around the family living there. The same 2023 reviewer who did the 900-foot remodel said crews came back in the months after move-in for small touch-ups. On Google the company carries a 4.8-star average across 16 ratings. The gap worth closing before you sign is credentials. The site says the company holds a Massachusetts unrestricted construction supervisor licence, an HIC registration and OSHA certification, but prints no number for any of them — ask for the HIC registration number and check it yourself against the state registry. The site also says the company has more than 20 years of building and design experience and names Mike Mercurio as the person running it; both are its own claims, not confirmed here. One more thing to weigh: every written comment here comes from a single platform. Ten detailed accounts from real projects is a real history, but it is one platform's version of it. If you are planning an addition, a rebuild or a whole-floor renovation and want a small shop where the owner stays in the middle of the project, this is a reasonable call. Get the licence number, and ask for two recent job addresses you can drive past.
I hired Mercurio Construction to build a new Accessory Dwelling Unit attached to our existing brick home. We also needed to complete some extensive renovations of the existing house. The ADU and shared space totaled a 1000 square foot addition by itself. Mike Mercurio did a great job. From beginning to end Mike kept us up to date on the project schedule including sub contractors and material deliveries. Mike provided very generous allowances and uses quality materials. He makes sure all the sub contractors do as well. He also makes sure the sub contractors are staying on schedule and getting their inspections on time. Mike does what he says he’s going to do. He’s a man of his word and we’re very happy we chose his company to do our project. We are pleased with everything and the finish product came out fabulous. We did all phases of construction from the foundation through new construction and into the existing home. I also want to mention Mike’s assistant Greg, who helps to oversee the various sub contractors and is an excellent liaison between the town inspectors and the home owner. He kept us up to date on the inspections, permits, and the subs rough and final sign offs. He was always here to meet city inspectors to answer any questions. I have been an electrical contractor for 36 years and I can highly recommend Mercurio Construction. If you are considering doing a construction project, the right contractor is imperative. Contact Mercurio Construction and discuss your project with Mike. You’ll be glad you did. Mark T
We hired Mecurio Construction for an addition to our home. Mike and his team were very responsive, honest, and did excellent work. We are very pleased and would highly recommend them.
Mike and his team did a fantastic job on our home. We had a very tight timeline to renovate the second level of a home we were moving in to and he got us there on time and on budget. The work is great quality, it’s been a year and we are still happy. 2 new bathrooms, moved a wall, all new flooring, new staircase/railings. I can’t recommend Mike enough, he was always responsive, answered his phone etc. We will definitely use his team again for our next projects.
Recommended with confidence. Mercurio Construction recently completed an addition to our home and the results are outstanding. Our house is 100 years old and the project required work on all three levels. I’m happy to say that the finished combined space is modern yet complimentary to the existing home. Mike’s team is professional and respectful and we were consistently impressed with their work. We had an extensive project over many months, which can be stressful for sure, but our relationship with his crew was positive throughout. We ended up adding more kitchen work mid-stream as things were going so well. Big stuff: Mike’s bid was competitive (out of 4-5?) recommended contractors. The project started on time and stayed on pace. Mike is responsive and addressed concerns quickly and was not put out by changes to the plan. All his subs are great and most have decades long work history together. We would absolutely work with Mike again; great experience overall.
We feel fortunate and grateful to have Mercurio Construction rebuild our house. Mike and team did a fantastic job converting a cape into an expanded two full story building in about six months. Mercurio Construction is well connected to a wide range of high quality suppliers and specialty sub-contractors, which are critical to deliver high quality results. On-time completion is a critical factor for us. Throughout the project, Mike was extremely responsive and efficient managing multiple workstreams - to keep things on track. It has been fun to work with the team which has many wonder team members with great professional skills and good sense of humor. I would highly recommend Mike and the Mercurio Construction to anyone who is looking for timely and quality completion of building or remodeling projects.
