Millennial Landscape & Construction's hardscape work traces back to 2015, when Josh Jones started a design-and-build outfit under the name Mass Hardscapes, building patios, retaining walls and paver walkways around eastern Massachusetts. Josh later handed the business to Joey and Rusty Defina of Millennial Landscaping, who run it today — Joey says he started his own landscaping company at 15 and grew it with his brother. The company now covers year-round landscape, hardscape, site-development, demolition, stormwater and snow-and-ice work for homes and businesses around Wayland, Weston, Wellesley, Sudbury and a dozen nearby towns, backed by Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute and National Concrete Masonry Association hardscape certifications. The written record under Josh Jones runs deep and consistently positive: from 2017 through 2020, customers described retaining walls, paver patios and walkways built "exactly on time" with a clean, orderly job site, several naming Josh directly for translating a rough idea into a finished design. A 2020 feature from a fire-feature manufacturer highlighted one of the company's custom fire pit installations. After the handoff to Joey and Rusty, that pattern of praise continued — reviews from 2022 through late 2025 keep pointing to prompt, honest communication and crews that finish on schedule, from a hemlock removal and hydrangea planting job to snow removal and a storm-prep save right before a family left the country. That run of goodwill met a rough patch this spring: three separate 1-star Google reviews posted in April 2026 described rude treatment, overpriced and poorly finished work, and yard damage the company wouldn't own up to. It's worth asking directly about a recent job before booking, and getting the scope and pricing in writing given that complaint. Google's own numbers add a wrinkle, too — the business shows two different rating totals, 4.8 stars from 8 ratings and 3.9 stars from 14, so it's worth checking Google directly for the current picture rather than relying on either figure alone. For hardscape-heavy projects — a patio, a retaining wall, a fire pit — the company's decade-long track record is the strongest evidence to weigh; just confirm current pricing and expectations up front given the recent complaints.

“### Mass Hardscapes ... This project from Mass Hardscapes is proof you don’t need a larger burner to get a large flame. ... This fire feature includes our CFB120 Original CROSSFIRE® Brass Burner with a push button ignition system.”
They were incredibly rude and condescending to me.
These people aren’t worth your time or money. Overpriced and overall poorly done. They also had a terrible attitude.
awful business and the owners are a terrible excuse for human beings.. ruined my yard and won't own up to it. i'd leave a 0 star review if i could.
In short, Millennial Landscape & Construction is an excellent and reliable company! I would hire them again, and recommend them without any reservations. They did everything they quoted and planned. They exceeded our expectations throughout the project. We hired Millennial to remove an old in-ground vinyl swimming pool in our back yard. Before the work, Joey thoroughly documented what would be done and how it would be done. The job was complex in that they had to create access into our backyard in order to use heavier machinery. Several trees were removed, and both a fence and a retaining wall had to be taken down to gain access. In a confined space, the excavator and loader were operated with a high level of expertise. We quickly realized that we were in very good hands. The demolition of the pool was done quickly without incident. The pool hole was filled, compacted, leveled/graded, and seeded with grass. The retaining wall was carefully rebuilt, as were several fence posts and panels. All parts of the access route that were affected by the trucks were leveled and reseeded with grass. As Joey said at the outset, “you will never know we were here, except your pool will be gone.” All true, and it looks great! Millennial takes pride in its work and takes care of its customers! 5 out of 5 stars !!!
We just had Millenial do a spring cleanup and replace all the plants in our front yard and it came out fantastic. They were consultative and helped us make the right decisions on plants based on our yard / family. Worth every penny. They should be your go-to in the area.
