Moodscapes has been designing organic, ecological landscapes out of Arlington since 1997, founded by Judi Lipson-Rubin, who by her own account built the business out of a personal healing experience with gardening. Nearly three decades later, the written record backs the longevity up: 4.8★ on Google from 25 ratings, 4.9★ on Houzz from 14, and a BBB file showing A+ accreditation dating to 2009. Judi is a certified landscape designer (MCLP) and an Accredited Organic Land Care Professional, and the company also lists membership in the Ecological Landscaping Alliance and the American Professional Landscape Designers, along with a Houzz Award and four Houzz badges. This isn't a mow-and-blow operation — the projects described across 23 reviews spanning 2015 to this summer run toward full redesigns: a cobblestone-and-paver driveway with a wood fence, a lawn regraded and reseeded with a clover-and-shade mix, four flowering trees planted, and a garden plan to implement over time; a hilly backyard reworked with masonry and drainage brought in alongside the planting design; a 30-year-old property redone front, side and back with a new irrigation system, an expanded flagstone patio, a replaced fence, a raised vegetable bed and new lighting; and, in one case, Judi acting as general contractor on a full hardscape rebuild that brought in a mason and a sprinkler installer under one plan. Several reviewers describe her staying personally involved through the whole process — one recalled her coming back to rework a lawn that hadn't germinated properly the first time, another kept her on for twice-yearly cleanup, weeding and feeding for years after the original install. The one sour account: in a 2022 review, a prospective customer described two initial meetings, a promise of an estimate within the week, and then no follow-up despite repeated calls — a contrast with how reviewers who did become clients describe the company's responsiveness once work started. Its self-reported history has a small wrinkle worth flagging: the website states Judi founded the company in 1997, but elsewhere on the same site describes '23 years' of service — the two don't line up, though nothing here suggests the underlying track record itself is in question.
