A one-star review from August 2022 sits in the middle of this company's Houzz page, and it is the most detailed account anyone has written about them. The homeowner described handing over a significant deposit and then months of being ignored, a rotation of designers and project managers they had to re-brief each time, and work starting before the materials were on site. Mother Construction answered publicly on the page. That is one side of a short, split history. On the same platform, a homeowner writing in October 2022 said a finished basement and master bathroom came out the way they wanted, and in May 2022 another credited Lori and her team with weekly progress meetings through a kitchen renovation. Its two Angi reviews, both from 2019 and both five stars, describe a fully gutted bathroom finished inside the estimated timeline with the dust and mess contained, and a design-and-coordination job. Five written accounts in all, the newest from October 2022. The company works out of Beverly with a Needham Heights mailing address, and its BBB file names Lori Bovarnick as president, gives a November 2018 incorporation, three employees, and an A+ grade without accreditation. Houzz describes it as a design/build general contractor founded and run by Bovarnick. BuildZoom records 13 permitted residential projects across eastern Massachusetts in 2021 and 2022, valued between roughly $6,000 and $207,000 — real work, on the books. Licensing is the thing to settle before you call, because the sources do not agree. BBB records a Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation registration numbered 148362. BuildZoom shows a different Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #200009, as inactive, says Mass.gov listed it as cancelled at one point, and puts an alert on the profile that there is no active license on file; the City of Newton numbers it lists were last seen expiring in January 2023. None of that was checked against the state registry here, so ask for the current registration number and look it up yourself. Two smaller things: the Houzz profile is marked suspended, and Angi's page claims 23 years of experience against the 2018 start on the BBB file. For a bathroom, basement or kitchen remodel on the North Shore, this is a small owner-run outfit with permitted work behind it and one serious, specific complaint on the record. Get the licence status confirmed, and get the crew assignment and materials schedule in writing before any deposit changes hands.
Mother construction finished my basement, and master bathroom. The end result was very nice, and we are happy with the way everything looks.
While others may have a good experience we were stuck with an incredibly incompetant team and were ignored for months after giving a significant deposit. We also continually got different team members suddenly because of high turnover rates within the company and had to re-explain our entire project to each new designer or project manager as there seems to be no internal communication. On top of this we had a hard time getting any answers from the mother construction employees without numerous calls and emails. The design team barely did anything I was never given a drawing or visual representation of how all the appliances fixtures etc would look together and wasn't even given real samples of anything to choose from. The multiple project managers we had delayed our project numerous times due to not having materials on-site for the contractors, ordering the wrong supplies, or misplacing permits for inspection. They even changed one of the appliances we chose to order without discussing with us. Throughout the project we did not have all the materials to complete the work and were constantly waiting on things to be delivered so the contractors could continue. This was incredibly dissappointing since the woman who sold us this job insisted demo wouldn't begin without having all supplies ready. Im sure there are some good people who work here but our expierence was horrible and I will not be taking a gamble with this company again. A huge waste of money and time just book directly through a contractor
I love Lori and team and I am so happy with my Kitchen Renovation. Mother Construction was very responsive and we had weekly progress meetings which was wonderful and kept us in tune with the project the entire time. Highly recommended!
Lori's crew was friendly and efficient. They did an amazing job! At the end of the job, they left everything so clean. The whole bathroom had to be gutted and they contained the dust and mess. Texts were quickly answered. Everything was completed within the time frame Lori had estimated. Very pleased and would recommend her to anyone.
Lori's very well connected and could promptly get the correct contractors she needed for the work that needed to be done, she was very creative with the ideas that she had presented to me. She was professional and courteous
