MPG Mechanical is a heating and cooling business whose own site says it is owned and operated by Mike Gilluly, based out of Charlestown RI, and was formed in 2009 after Mike worked 16 years at a local HVAC company. Its own site lists a service area that includes North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Westerly and Stonington. A 2024 customer said Mike and Matt installed a Mitsubishi 2-zone mini split heat pump system in less than a day, within a couple weeks of the quote, and that the rebate money was in their bank account within 48 hours. In a 2023 review, a customer said Mike handled the on-site survey and quote, while Matt installed a Mitsubishi heat-pump mini-split, set up the Kumo Cloud wi-fi modules and explained how to put mouse repellent bags inside the exterior units. A 2023 customer wrote that Mike and Matt installed 2 compressors and 5 splits in an 1883 home over 3 days. A 2021 customer said Mike replaced their central AC and oil burner hydro heating system with Mitsubishi ducted mini-splits through the National Grid heat loan program. A 2023 customer said they called around 7:30 about a failed hot water tank and had a new tank installed and heating up by 10am the same day. A 2023 customer had a new furnace installed by Mike and said he came back and fixed a couple of issues. A 2025 customer said Mike, Matt and Jen helped with all the paperwork required for rebates. On the r/rhodeisland subreddit, a 2024 commenter said MPG and D&V Mechanical were the two lowest quotes they got, and that they went with MPG and were very happy with it. A 2024 commenter wrote that Mike is their neighbor and has helped them out a couple times with minor heating issues. A 2026 customer said Jen canceled their HVAC service appointment without telling them or Mike, then canceled their service contract. A 2024 customer said they stayed home for a regular A/C service and the company did not show or call, twice. A 2022 customer said they waited two weeks for a repair on a system MPG installed in 2014, until Mike texted: “We just don't stand by products that don't service in 10 years.”
“My guess is prices have gone up a little but it was MPG Mechanical.”
“These are south county recs, but MPG Mechanical and D&V Mechanical respectively were the 2 lowest quotes I got. Liked them both. Ultimately went with MPG for "know the same guys" reasons, and very very happy with it.”
“Another recommendation for MPG Mechanical. Very good work all around. Great support after installation too.”
“I'd give a thumbs up to MPG Mechanical. Mike's a good guy with an honest approach.”
“2nd MPG Mechanical. Mike is actually my neighbor - he's bailed me and my wife out a couple times when we had minor heating issues.”
Communication is difficult as Mike and Jennifer do not always say the same thing. Mike said he was coming to service our HVAC SYSTEMS as scheduled but running late. I had communicated with Jen several times confirming that time and date. She asked did I have the filters (they do not provide filters); I replied yes. Mike said he was running late. I waited. However, Mike later found Jen had canceled my appointment despite my confirming with her last week. She'd sent an email to check again, late afternoon the day before but I had already confirmed and was not checking my email. No courtesy call from Jen. She just canceled despite confirming only a few days earlier. She did not tell Mike and she did not tell me (she had canceled the service call). I told her I was sorry about the mixup but she was less than professional with her reply. She then canceled my service contract telling neither Mike or myself. I cannot explain what goes on with their internal communication.
Mike , Matt and Jen are great. They helped through the whole process, coming out and explaining the system getting the quote. Installing again answering any questions I had while performing the install. Helping with all paperwork required for rebates. I would recommend MPG mechanical
Mike and Matt did wonderful work. I had a unique situation. Needed to remove an old through-the-wall AC myself. Had buddy electrician help out to do electrical. Mike worked with me. Great price. Exactly the unit we wanted - placed where we wanted. They got it done in less than a day, all over within a couple weeks of doing the quote. The Mitsubishi 2-zone mini split heat pump system is working better than we would have hoped. Never had the house this cool and dry. It's whisper quiet and lightning quick. Keeps the basement nice and dry too. And first month's bill was 33kWh less than last year - even though it was a degree hotter on average with more sun. He gave me everything for the rebate, and it was in my bank account within 48 hours. What's not to love?
I set up an appointment with MPG Mechanical for a regular A/C service. I stayed home from work the day of the appointment. No show, no call. When I contacted them, they gave me multiple contradictory explanations. I'll spare you the details. Eventually, I was told that they would be coming out later that day. I waited patiently. They no showed, no called me a second time. To this day I have heard nothing else from them. No apology, no attempt to make it right, nothing. I do not recommend this company.
Would highly recommend. Mike and team were great communicators throughout the entire process. They are knowledgeable about their products and existing systems at the house. Install was friendly, clean and efficient.
