MTS Siding and Roofing has been doing roof and siding work out of Spencer for years, run by its owner, Matt. The company holds an active, state-verified Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, and the Better Business Bureau lists it as an A+ accredited business offering everything from metal and flat roofing to gutter installation, fiber cement siding, and window installation. The volume of specific praise here is real: reviewers across Google, Angi, and HomeAdvisor describe full roof replacements finished in a single day, crews on-site early and gone by mid-morning with the yard cleaned up, and Matt personally responding quickly to texts and questions throughout the job. Several customers describe using the company on more than one property, or coming back a second or third time — one landlord said MTS is now the only company they call for any of their rental properties. Pricing gets called fair rather than cheap; a few reviewers specifically say Matt wasn't the lowest bid but was worth it for the responsiveness and cleanup. The company shows up on Google under two separate listings — one with 4.7 stars from 72 ratings, another with 4 stars from 7 — plus 4.9 stars from 28 ratings on Angi, all consistent with the volume of positive detail in the written reviews. That said, the record isn't spotless. In an August 2026 review, a customer described an $8,000 quote for a full shingle replacement and said the photo-documentation steps Matt described weren't followed through on. In an April 2025 review, a customer described negligent workers causing internal water damage and said the company was dismissive when the problem was raised. And in a 2020 review, a customer described Matt being unable to access the roof for an inspection with the ladder he had on hand, and repeated delays before a repair quote arrived. A single BuildZoom review gives the company 1.0 stars, echoing that same theme of poor follow-through, though it's one review against a much larger and more positive record everywhere else. None of these complaints describe the same kind of problem, and they're spread across six years against dozens of detailed, positive accounts. But the specifics are worth asking about directly — particularly what's actually included in a quote and how follow-up issues get handled — before signing a contract.
Matt and his crew were great. He responded quickly to any texts and arrived exactly when he said they would. Provided a contract and all liability insurance without even asking. Price was more than fair for removing old shingles, a new roof and gutters. Excellent work and the post work cleanup was great. They tarped everything and used tools to clean up any old nails after they were done. I couldn't be happier with the company. Very professional all around. Thank you!
Matt came to my house in June and gave me a quote for a full shingle replacement and quoted me around $8000 dollars and he stated “ we will take pictures of your roof. But he did not follow the steps that he told me in stating that his guys will send him the pictures and if it needs repair and I will reach out and speak to you directly, to make sure I have approval to do any repairs that is necessary.” Denise My wife spoke to the foreman who was on the property at the time and asked the foreman directly if he sent her husband the pictures of the damage of the roof and the gentleman stated “NO”he sent them to Matt and Matt had to forward them to her husband” but it never happened (not happy about that situation at all,) then when Matt came to the house to collect his pay, he stated he was too busy with another customer doing a quote to make a phone call to me and to make sure repairs was approved) I told him that was not what he stated his process was to me before I approved the work on reshingling the house. Matt and I never spoke the whole day.!!!!(Makes you feel like your not a customer, YOUR ONLY A CHECK !!!!( not satisfied with customer communication at all by what was stated before the job was approved) I came home from work around 4 pm and the roof was 3/4 of the way done, I Tried offering beverages to the crew, but they did not understand English.water was handed out . They had the roof completed by 8PM that night, That included stripping the old shingles, Doing whatever repairs that was supposedly done , (that I didn’t see ) replacing whatever wood that was supposedly replaced ( that I didn’t see ) and according to Matt it was a total of eight pieces of 1x8x16 foot long pine ledger board according to my receipt. The roof came out good, The workers cleaned up all of the mess, The dumpster was picked up the next day( Although there was some nails that fell out of the dumpster when it was picked up from my driveway and lucky my wife looked before she moved her car or would’ve got a flat). I would have to say my biggest disappointment through the whole shingle replacement was being charged over $1000 dollars for eight boards .When Home Depot’s price is $12.88 aboard . Matt never turned around and told me the additional cost of what I was looking at for repairs to get my approval. He just went ahead and repaired my roof and charged me an additional $1024 for eight boards which I find completely ridiculously priced, And when I turned around and questioned him and asked him why the price was high for eight boards and complained a little bit, he turned around and had the audacity to tell me “you’re the only one that complained about the price”Everybody else just pays it with no questions asked. So yes, Matt may know his business, He has a crew that does well and puts a roof on in a timely manner, But in my honest opinion regarding Matt, He’s a hustler, He gave me a low price to get the job and instead of communicating with me like he said he was going to do , he did not follow his own process of what he stated to me and he hustled me out of an extra thousand dollars for eight boards to increase the cost of the roof, which I do not find acceptable by no means. His crew does Do a quality roof but I would be skeptical regarding the price due to being charged $1024 dollars for eight boards with the boards only total $103.04 cents at Home Depot is a bit extreme If you look below, you will see the calculation from Home Depot, which charges $12.88 per board You can use your own judgment, This was my experience with Matt. The roof came out good, but from here forward, I probably would not trust Matt or use him again. Especially after charging what he charges for additional lumber and PRICE GOUGES HIS CUSTOMERS!!!! Home Depot pricing $12.88 for 1 board, but I was charged $1024 dollars for to repair of the my roof of only 8 Boards. $12.88. X 8 = $103.04 is the actual cost for wood 1 in. x 8 in. x 16 ft.
