Neal's Flooring says it has been installing and refinishing wood floors in Connecticut homes and businesses since 1977. On Google it holds 3.9 stars from 64 ratings, and its BBB grade is A+. A 2025 customer said that after new wood floors were installed, the floor creaked and felt spongey, and Neal's came out the very next day. That customer said Neal's sourced new material, removed the entire floor and reinstalled everything within two weeks. A 2022 customer said Neal's sanded and refinished hardwood floors almost 150 years old. A 2022 reviewer wrote that they laid 700 square feet of vinyl in a condo in less than 5 hours. A 2022 customer said a section of red oak floor had to be replaced after water damage from a faulty laundry machine, with over 1000 square feet sanded and stained. A 2023 customer said engineered wood flooring Neal's installed over a stone kitchen floor with radiant heat was all cracked 18 months later, after Neal's had said they installed over radiant all the time. A 2025 customer said refinished floors faded fast and scratched easily, and that Neal's said nothing was covered under warranty. A 2026 customer said they left splatter on a newly painted closet door and the baseboards and had to refinish the whole upstairs, which was fixed within a day or two after the customer complained. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0656684, as active, held by Neals Flooring Inc.
Earlier today one of their company trucks flew through an intersection taking a left, that caused myself and others to have to slam on the brakes.
This is the second time we’ve used Neal’s and if I left a review the first time, it would have been 5 stars. Unfortunately, after this past experience, I won’t be recommending Neal’s to anyone anymore. Pros: good price for refinishing and installing, Linda is wonderful to work with, you’ll be happy if you don’t care about the details. Cons: they left splatter on one of newly painted closet doors and all over our baseboards, they installed a piece that had a hole in it they they filled with filler that looks terrible (only fixed after we called to complain), and they had to refinish the whole upstairs because they blended the finishing coat terrible (again, only after we complained). They did come and fix everything within a day or two but the guy on the job was complaining to my husband and told him this was the second job that week that had to be redone but the team who worked in our house. He said the team was awful and he was tired of coming to jobs to clean up the messes they make. So my advice? If you’re going to use Neal’s make sure you tell them not to send you the knucklehead team that doesn’t know what they’re doing.
At one time I enthusiastically praised and referred others to the company. What I learned is if you have a customer service issue, they rate poorly. Long story short, the company wants to charge me for a mistake made by their technicians. No big deal, mistakes happen and the company corrected the problem. The issue is that we should not be charged for their failing to follow protocol, which caused an issue with the floor. We had a history of giving Neal's Flooring a good amount of business and they refused to give us good customer service and agree to credit us for their error. Several emails and a letter to the owner were written with a full explanation of events and pictures to show the issue, with no satisfaction. Be aware consumers - I'm looking to do more floors, but will find a new company.
Great specialty trade showroom. Lots of variety. Staff friendly and helpful.
Stay away!! We had our floors refinished and sanded a few years ago. Upon returning from vacation we noticed the floors didn’t have the right shine. We had just spent a lot to have this done and run a business from the home, so we couldn’t shut down for another week and pay to have everything moved out and stored again. We decided to just live with it. It faded fast and was insanely easy to scratch, more so than our prior floors before the refinish or even at other houses we’ve owned. I reached out this year and asked them to take a look. They said nothing was covered under warranty, they did the right shine, the job was good and they offered me a sales person to quote me another job. The idea the floor looked this awful a few years after is ridiculous, and other companies can’t believe it was done this recently. When I reached out again Neil’s was horrendous to deal with: weeks would go by without an answer, or have to prompt them again. They finally gave me an answer…and sent it to the wrong email address. It was all just an inconvenience and they didn’t care unless it was a new sale. I’m at the point of considering legal action given what I’ve been told and advised.
