Nelson Landscaping & Garden Center is a Randolph, MA outfit that's been showing up at South Shore addresses since the 1950s — the company says it started with Stan Nelson doing grading and excavating, then grew into landscaping and, by the early 1970s under his son Phillip Nelson, a full garden center. It describes itself as family-owned across three generations. The volume here is real: 71 Google ratings average 4.5 stars, with reviews on file running from 2021 into this year. The recurring thread is full-yard work — spring cleanups that turn into complete front-yard renovations (new soil, sod, stonework, and perennial planting, per a July 2026 review), mulch that regulars order year after year, and hardscape jobs like a dry creek bed installed for erosion control. Several customers describe getting a quote and a crew on-site within a week or two, and more than one mentions sticking with Nelson's for five-plus years running. Two things are worth knowing before booking. A June 2026 review described a soured mulch order — a longtime customer said the credit card machine was down and the resulting payment process left them frustrated after years of smooth service. Separately, a 2024 review claimed to have seen video of a company vehicle nearly hitting a motorcyclist and warned other homeowners to be cautious. And the Better Business Bureau currently grades the company F, citing unauthorized use of the BBB name or trademarks — it is not a BBB-accredited business. For routine landscaping — lawn care, seasonal cleanups, mulch, sod, and hardscape features like retaining walls and stonework — the customer track record here is deep and mostly positive, with the same names (Phil, Chris, Jeremiah) coming up across years of reviews. Given the BBB grade, it's worth asking directly about billing and payment procedures before a project starts.
Chris and his team were prompt, on time, polite, efficient, and incredibly easy to work with. They listened to my vision and brought it to life even better than I had imagined. The quality of their work exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for professional, reliable landscaping services.
Chris and his team at Nelson Landscaping are outstanding. They handled my spring cleanup and then completely renovated my front yard — new soil, sod, stone work, mulch, and also assisted me with planting my new perennials -- everything done with precision and care. The results are beautiful, and the entire process was smooth and professional. Highly recommend!
We have been loyal customers of Nelson Landscape Company since purchasing our home in 2020. Every year we've ordered mulch from them because they've always been reliable, provided excellent customer service, and delivered quickly and seamlessly. Until this year, we had nothing but positive things to say. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was completely unacceptable and has left us extremely disappointed. When we called to order mulch, we were told the credit card machine was down, so we couldn't pay over the phone. We were informed that paying the driver upon delivery was an option. We were also told the mulch would be delivered the following afternoon and that the driver would call before arriving. I stayed home all day waiting for the delivery. At 4:20 p.m., I had to leave briefly to pick up my child from daycare for a 4:30 pickup. Shortly after, I received a call from Nelson Landscape stating the mulch had already been delivered. The employee who called was rude, disrespectful, and immediately demanded payment. They insisted I had been told delivery would occur between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., which was never communicated to me. Had I been given that information, I would have made other arrangements. When I asked if I could provide my credit card over the phone, I was told no one was in the office to take payment. I then asked if I could simply call back the next day to pay by credit card. Instead of receiving a reasonable response, the employee said, "Whatever, I don't have time to deal with this," and hung up on me. After years of being a consistent, reliable customer, this level of customer service was shocking. The interaction was disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. We understand that mistakes and miscommunications happen, but there is never an excuse for treating loyal customers this way. It's unfortunate that one terrible customer service experience has completely changed our opinion of a company we had happily supported for years.
