Nelson Painting

Burt Nelson started this company in 1960 and built it on preparation — get the surface right and the paint takes care of itself. He died in 2013 after more than five decades in the trade; his son Marc runs the company now and does every estimate himself, with Marc Jr. out on the crew. Customers feel the inheritance: one wrote in March 2026 about the pride and craftsmanship handed down through the generations, another in June that they had used Nelson for nearly 20 years. The preparation is not a slogan. A 2023 customer collected four quotes and chose Nelson not on price but on procedure: meticulous prep including carpentry and trim work, and paint applied with traditional brushes rather than sprayers. A customer this May had the failing woodwork spots patched before the house was painted and said it looks new. The company works out of Plymouth, covering the town and its villages and reaching across southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape, and it does more than paint — cabinet refinishing, deck and fence staining, power and soft washing, carpentry, and fire and water damage restoration. In 2025 one customer had the house and barn softwashed; another had trim, a bulkhead and wrought-iron railings painted, with the estimate given in writing; a third bought a circa-1756 colonial that needed serious work and had the whole team on it. Jobs move quickly once they start. Two bathrooms painted in three hours in February 2025, including waiting for the first coat to dry. A whole first floor plus the staircase and second-floor hallway in two days in October 2025 — and that customer said other estimates had been double. Crews get named in the reviews (Matt, Tyler, Tim and Zach painted one interior this May), Nicole runs the office, and the same notes repeat: on time, cleaned up at the end of each day, the house left spotless. Two practical things. They are busy — a customer in August 2025 said exactly that, adding that the wait was worth it — so plan around lead time. And they do not compete on being cheapest: the 2023 reviewer who took four quotes chose them in spite of price, even though a 2025 customer found rival estimates at twice Nelson's. For an interior or exterior repaint around Plymouth and the South Shore where the surface needs real work before the colour goes on, this is a long-standing family shop with the owner on every estimate. Ask when they can start, and ask exactly what the prep includes.
