Two large front-yard pines came down in the couple of hours Northern Tree Services had estimated, according to an August 2026 Google reviewer, who also said the crew left no mess. The Palmer company offers residential tree removal, planting, stump grinding, cabling and plant health care. It says it has been in business for 94 years and advertises insured work and 24/7 emergency service. Its stated service area includes Amherst, Northampton, Longmeadow, Westfield and Shrewsbury. Google shows 4.3 stars from 138 ratings. A May 2026 customer described quick removal of many trees on an upper lot and said this was the second job the company had done for them. In a May 2023 review, another customer described removal of three large trees close to power lines and structures, praised the crew and called the price affordable. An August 2025 reviewer described Northern Tree arriving within hours after a large limb broke from a beech tree, then clearing debris and pruning damaged branches. That reviewer also credited arborist Patrick with directing tree removal, precision pruning, support-cable installation and Airspading work on the Amherst College campus. Early starts drew a complaint in July 2026. A neighbor said the company had twice arrived to cut trees at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday and objected to the disturbance. This was a complaint about work near the reviewer, who said they had hired a different tree company for their own trees.
“At the Board of Selectmen's request, Northern Tree Services of Palmer, contracted by the Massachusetts Highway Department, began cutting the tree down yesterday morning.”
“Northern Tree Services performs jobs in many settings. It builds roads and work pads for utility companies, and has cleared sections of land that range from a half-acre to 550 acres to make way for power lines, solar fields, gas and oil pipelines — including the Keystone Pipeline — and large commercial contractors.”
Your guys were the best, from start to finish, very professional. I had two large pine trees taken down in my front yard. The guy I talked to said it would take a couple hours and it did. Cleaned up and left with no mess. Would definitely recommend.
This company has shown up twice to cut trees down in a neighborhood, at 7:30 in the morning (on a Saturday)- with zero regard for neighbors. The first time we gave them a pass, but the second time we know they just don’t care. We had trees taken down by another company this week and our company noted that they didn’t want to disturb neighbors and would come at 9:00. Not these Northern Tree! Said they don’t want to work when it’s hot. Maybe they should have thought about that before they started a tree company in New England!l It’s a big NO, NEVER WITH THEM. Pick a company that does quality work with integrity instead.
Made quick work of many trees on our upper lot. Professional and courteous staff. This is the second job they have done for us, and we couldn't be more satisfied. Highly recommend them for our friends and neighbors!
Northern Tree Service has the equipment and expertise to take care of all tree care needs. When a large limb broke out of one of our old, large Beech trees, Northern Tree arrived within hours to safely and professionally clean up the large amount of debris and prune other damaged branches. Patrick is an extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful arborist who considers tree care from many angles. Under his direction, crews have removed dead or dying trees, performed precision pruning, installed support cables, and performed Airspading work on many trees on the Amherst College campus.
I hired them to take down three really large trees. They did a really great job and it was affordable. The crew was really professional and amicable at the same time. I would definitely recommend this company. All these trees were difficult trees, power lines and structures in very close proximity. Thank you Sam, Jim, Angel and Marc. It was a pleasure watching you guys in action!
