Oxland Builders is a design-build custom home and remodeling firm in Stratham on the New Hampshire Seacoast, with its own in-house design team and cabinet shop. The company says it was founded in spring 2003 by Brad Sawler and Justin Kelcourse to build spec homes, moved into additions and renovations when the market turned, and has been led by Brad Sawler since; it puts itself at 23 years in business. The recent record is unusually consistent. Reviews from 2025 describe a first-floor renovation guided by named designers, a bathroom renovation run by a named project manager, a porch enclosed and a water-intrusion problem solved, and a screened porch converted into a four-season room. A 2025 customer with a historic home said the work was exactly as requested and the site thoroughly cleaned. Google carries 4.6 stars from 19 ratings; Houzz carries 5.0 from 6. What customers keep naming is the team and the process rather than one trade: designers who source the finishes, a project manager who communicates, on-site staff who show up daily. In a 2023 review a homeowner having a fireplace renovated praised the same communication chain from design through office to site crew. The older written accounts, from 2014 to 2018, cover a screened porch and deck rebuild, two bathrooms plus re-insulation, and a third-floor conversion — the range has been wide for a long time. One honest caveat comes from outside the review sites: a 2026 Reddit commenter recommending them in a southern New Hampshire renovation thread called the firm "pricey but good." A 2025 reviewer also noted the job took a little longer than hoped once materials, subcontractors and weather were factored in. Ask for the schedule assumptions and where the budget can move. The company describes itself as fully insured, lead-safe certified and licensed, but publishes no registration number, and none of that was checked against a registry here — treat it as its own statement. New Hampshire runs no statewide general-contractor or home-improvement registration, so for design-build remodeling there is no state licence to look up either way. A good fit for a Seacoast or southern Maine homeowner planning a kitchen, bathroom, addition, ADU or whole-home renovation who wants design and construction under one roof, and who would rather pay for a managed process than chase the lowest bid.
“Oxland builders. Has a great rep. Pricey but good.”
Renovating the first floor of my home was a major decision and working with Oxland Builders made the experience so much easier than I had anticipated. After first meeting with Brad to discuss what I had in mind, I then had a meeting at my home with Kate and Christina, and we got to experience a minor earthquake together! They are two of the nicest and most talented people I have ever had the occasion to meet and work with. Kate has great knowledge of who to call and how to get things done. And Christina's knowledge of what will look great, what won't work so well, was amazing. There were many meetings with both of these incredible women! Matt and Charlie are very talented and so nice to have around. And to make the job more challenging for them, I was still living in the home and working from home throughout the whole process. Lynn in the office always had a smile and warm greeting for me, and on one visit even came out to my car to give my puppy a biscuit! Dick was here a couple times to make deliveries. Everyone at Oxland is an asset to their company and I would highly recommend them to everyone!
Oxland's team took great care of us. Our project manager, Nick Layhe was as communicative and timely as materials, subs & weather would allow. He and the other on-site Oxland employees , Matt & Charlie always arrived with a smile on their faces, prepared to put in a long day. Christina, their design consultant did an excellent job laying out and sourcing the products required for our collective vision for a bathroom renovation. All of their subcontractors are polite and professional. As with most remodels, things took a little longer than we hoped. But once underway, things went as smoothly as possible.... and the end result is truly spectacular. We couldn't adore our home more.
The Oxland team was great. Responsive and friendly, they did great work, exactly as I requested and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. I would trust them again with my historic home.
Oxland Builders did a great job enclosing our porch and solving water intrusion from heavy rains. I would highly recommend Oxland Builders for your home improvement project.
Brad Sawler and his team at Oxland did a tremendous job converting our screened-in porch into a 4 season room. Brad listened patiently to our ideas and helped us plan the perfect space. The finished room exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Oxland for your next project.
