Palmer Gas & Oil's customers describe more than fuel deliveries: propane tank installations, heating repairs and electrical work all feature in their accounts. The Atkinson company says it delivers across southern New Hampshire, northern Massachusetts and southern Maine from three fuel storage facilities. It describes itself as family-owned, with Bill Ermer leading a business formed by merging the Ermer fuel-oil operation and Palmer bottled-gas business in 1981. Google reports 4.7 stars from 771 ratings; Angi reports 4.8 from 72, while Houzz reports 2.6 from five. There are serious complaints alongside those accounts. In a March 2026 review, a longtime customer alleged that a malfunctioning gauge led to an overfilled propane tank exploding. They said Palmer replaced the tank, subsequently removed the bill and accepted responsibility. The reviewer also described missed automatic deliveries and difficulty reaching a manager. In June 2026, another customer disputed a $6,800 tank-replacement quote, saying three other companies considered replacement unnecessary for another ten years and quoted $3,000–$4,000 for that work. A February 2025 reviewer complained about repair pricing, alleged that another supplier had to correct Palmer's wiring and described a salesperson swearing and making insulting comments about their family. An October 2025 customer seeking an oil-furnace diagnosis said Palmer required an account and tank inspection first, then missed the scheduled inspection window. An August 2024 reviewer described resistance and a disputed estimate when seeking to buy their tank. In a March 2025 Reddit thread, a poster said Palmer tried to charge them $7000 to buy out their tank. A May 2024 customer complained about deliveries exceeding their prepaid propane allotment and the resulting charges; a May 2023 reviewer reported an oil delivery they had not authorized. Other customers have praised repair follow-through. A March 2023 reviewer described an air-conditioning failure that required ordered parts, followed by repair visits and testing until the vents blew cold air. A September 2025 customer praised help after an oil-tank accident and the later installation of a Roth replacement tank. A January 2026 reviewer described more than twenty years with Palmer, including furnace service, a water-heater installation and gas piping for a pool heater.
