Three fence jobs in the last few months, three five-star write-ups, and — unusually — the prices sit right there in them: $1,650 for a vinyl repair, $1,800 for a wood fence repair. Portillo's is a family-run gate and fencing outfit on Mohan Street in Everett, and Edwin is the one who turns up; recent clients name him and his crew directly. The company puts itself at 11 years, says it speaks Spanish, and lists emergency call-outs, free estimates and warranties. The recent work is vinyl installs, vinyl repairs and wood fence repair, and the two things clients keep mentioning are response time and communication. One April client liked the job enough to say they would bring them back for a second property. Then there is the other side of the page. The single rating below five stars is a three-star complaint from a customer who says the job started a month late, that the lumber delivered was the wrong species, and that a gate came out a foot shorter than the fence. Edwin disputed the account publicly, saying he supplied all the material and was ill the day work began. Two people, two stories — the useful takeaway either way is to get species, dimensions and a start date in writing before anyone digs a post hole. Massachusetts does not require home improvement contractor registration for fencing-only work, so nothing turns on that here; a certificate of insurance is still worth asking for. A sensible call for a straightforward vinyl, wood or chain-link fence around Everett and the inner-north suburbs, especially if you want a small crew that picks up the phone. Pin the material spec and gate dimensions to paper, confirm the start date, and have the fixed price in hand before the trailer arrives.

Wood Fence Repair ($1,800). Edwin & his crew did a fantastic job for us. Their response time was quick & efficient. Can't wait to use them again on our other property!

When I first met Edwin he was very polite. He promised to follow the explicit details of the project which were to match existing fence. He said he would start in two weeks. When he finally showed up it had been a month. He stayed for a few hours and went home sick after having brought a small amount of disgraceful materials. I mistakenly agreed to pay $300 for these in advance. The wood was cracked, some posts too large and the boards the wrong species. After being instructed not to use a specific post he did so anyway. Then proceeded to make the gate a foot shorter than fence. After he left I noticed the cross bars were pine which he argued and lied over until Angi got involved. To keep job he agreed to get cedar like the original fence. By then I had had enough manipulation and childishness. He insisted on finishing job and I did not want him to. So in fear he would, I had to keep and move the materials he lazily left. Edwin is dishonest, and immature. I do not recommend him! (The company replied that it brought all the materials, that the owner was sick that day, and that the $300 deposit covered material and labour.)

Edwin is the most punctual and conscientious sub I have worked with ever! He's available all the time, returns your calls immediately and actually shows up when he says he's going to, does the work on time and is a precise and conscientious craftsman in his trade. I would highly recommend him for any quality exterior landscaping, fencing, and other related jobs that he would be suited for.
