Rotted trim, tired decks and damaged wood gutters are the jobs PR Home Improvement has been hired for most, and the name that comes up in most reviews is Marcelo. The Saugus company, registered as PR Painting and General Services, says it started in painting more than 18 years ago and now also does kitchen and bathroom renovations. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor (HIC) license is active on the state registry. On Google it holds 5 stars from 40 ratings. In a March 2025 review, a customer described a kitchen taken down to the studs, a wall removed, hardwood floors refinished and added and a gas fireplace put in, finished on schedule, exactly on budget and through building inspections without problems. A July 2025 reviewer had a condo bathroom gutted and redone, new floors and fresh paint. An April 2026 Google reviewer said the project finished on time with clear communication. A July 2025 customer who asked about a rotting deck said Marcelo told them the frame was sound and only the boards needed replacing, then flipped the stairs to the other side at their request. In a December 2021 review, a customer with a historic Victorian had its wood gutters repaired instead of switching to aluminum. A condo association contact in January 2022 described an online estimate with photos and a cost for each part of the trim repair, and said the crew flagged more rotted boards as they went. In April 2025, an r/SalemMA commenter working with Marcelo on a condo renovation on Essex Street called the pricing competitive.
“I'm currently working with Marcelo from PR Home Improvement on a condo renovation on Essex Street and he's done a great job so far. Good dude, competitive pricing, quality workmanship.”
Great experience working with this company! The team was professional, reliable, and paid attention to every detail. They finished the project on time and the quality of the work was amazing. Communication was always clear, which made everything easy and stress-free. I’m really happy with the results and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for good construction work!
Phenomenal experience with Marcelo and his team! We had several home improvement projects on our list, including replacing a rotting deck. When we reached out for an estimate, Marcelo responded quickly and gave us a thorough, honest assessment of the work needed. We were pleasantly surprised when he complimented the deck's structure and explained that only the boards needed replacing; not the entire frame. His transparency saved us both time and money. At our request, they also flipped the stairs to the opposite side, crafting beautiful, custom work that exceeded our expectations. Marcelo’s team was punctual, friendly, and incredibly efficient. They worked cleanly and with great attention to detail. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer or more dedicated crew. We have more projects on our list and will absolutely hire PR Home Improvement and Painting again. From fair pricing to exceptional work, they have our highest recommendation!
I've used many contractors for various renovations. Marcelo and his hardworking crew surpasses all others. They are professional, dedicated, jovial and very conscientious workers. They clean up all debris and leftovers, leaving the environment intact. Look forward to more continued working relationship.
Marcelo and his crew were amazing. They went above and beyond! They showed up early, worked hard, finished quickly, and cleaned up after themselves. They didn't just do exactly what we asked, they went beyond and did little things that made the project better that we didn't know to ask for. We will 100% be using them again for future projects around the house! I'd give 10 stars if I could. EDIT 2024: Marcelo and his crew came again this year for another round of projects. They were, once again, awesome. Came early or on time, worked hard, cleaned up after themselves, and were finished early! I'm never using anyone else for our house projects!
I hired Marcelo and his team to gut and re-do my bathroom, replace my floors, and paint my one bedroom condo. I am very happy with the result - Marcelo was reasonably priced, very communicative, worked fast, and did excellent work. I would definitely hire Marcelo again the next time I need some work done on my home.
