Prescription Turf

Prescription Turf works out of Rundlett Way in Middleton, and its steadiest customers are not households at all — they are institutions. Tufts' sustainability office describes the company as the outside contractor that applies broadleaf weed killer on campus turf once or twice a year, and a 2019 Patch report described Westwood Public Schools writing to parents about the company spraying pesticides on school and town athletic fields. The homeowner side of its history is thin and old. Two written accounts exist and both predate the period that counts most. In April 2020, a customer praised a technician by name, calling Steve Swanson polite and a good worker. In August 2012, a different customer told the opposite story: a lawn dying with big dead spots, a mowing company that pointed at the fertilizer Prescription Turf had put down, and a week of calls to a phone that rang with no voicemail before anyone rang back. That 2012 account is fourteen years old and weighs far less today than it did then — but nothing newer has replaced it, which is the honest problem here. There is no recent written record either way. If you are a school or a grounds manager, this is a company whose institutional work is documented by the clients themselves. If you are a homeowner, ask directly what happens when a treatment goes wrong: who comes out, how fast, and what gets repaired. Ask for the applicator's Massachusetts pesticide licence and for two recent residential references before any product goes on your lawn.
