Sixty-eight Google ratings averaging 4.5, and the thing customers keep circling back to isn't a repair at all — it's the tank never running dry. Propane Plus monitors levels remotely and sends the fill before anyone has to think about it, a point made over and over: "we never have to wonder about our delivery," one customer wrote in December 2024, and a year-round resident of Prudence Island described in July 2024 relying on them for twelve winters on an island reachable only by ferry. The company works out of Winthrop Street in Rehoboth with a second yard in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and says it was founded in 1990 and has been family owned since. Its BBB profile — accredited since 2016, graded A+ — lists twelve employees and Timothy M. Johnson as president, and the Rehoboth Chamber of Commerce lists it as a member. Beyond propane delivery and tank work, they install and service furnaces, boilers, ductless mini-splits, water heaters and central air conditioning. Named technicians carry the service side. Jayson, Anthony, Jason and office staffer Ashley turn up by name across years of five-star notes, usually for the same reason: someone explained what was wrong and what it would cost. In an August 2025 review, a customer booked an A/C repair in the morning, got a call 45 minutes before arrival, and had the unit fixed the same day. Two accounts cut against that, and one is recent. In February 2026 a homeowner posted a detailed one-star warning: a house bought less than a month earlier could not be held above 55–57°F, two service visits did not resolve it, and the writer put the cost of the failed diagnosis at over $1,300. Separately, in October 2025, a customer waiting on an "afternoon" window — during time taken off to be with a dying parent — was asked to volunteer to reschedule, then told the visit would not happen that day. A BBB reviewer, undated, reports a paused propane delivery they considered a winter safety risk. Strong on the routine — deliveries, tune-ups, straightforward A/C and furnace work — the complaints cluster instead on hard diagnostic calls and on scheduling when a day goes sideways. For propane supply and annual service, this is a long-established southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island outfit with a consistent history behind it. If you are calling about a house that will not hold heat, ask what the diagnostic path is, what happens to the bill if the first visit doesn't solve it, and get the appointment window in writing.
We had routine maintenance and cleaning done on our heating and cooling system as well as on our condenser and we didn’t expect an education as well! Jayson, the service technician, was very informative and genuinely invested in making sure that everything was working properly and that we understood the workings of our system and the things that could go wrong if routine maintenance isn’t done. We appreciate Jayson’s expertise and his friendly, good natured demeanor. We highly recommend requesting him for your heating and cooling service needs!
I am writing this to warn other homeowners about the gross negligence I experienced with Propane Plus. My home that I purchased less than a month ago, was unable to maintain temperatures above 55–57°F, significantly below the state legal habitability standard of 68°F. Despite two separate service calls sending Anthony Watts, this company’s "expertise" cost my family over $1,300 in unnecessary expenses and weeks of hardship. The Failure of Due Diligence: During the first visit, the technician dismissed our concerns, claiming the unit was "fine" and that the cold was simply due to having an "old house." I was charged $300 for this dismissive and incorrect assessment. When the issue persisted and I called them back for a second look, the technician performed a combustion test and again insisted the system was functioning perfectly. The Reality: After two failed diagnostics by this firm, I hired a second company. They identified the issue within minutes: the main supply line for the first floor was completely disconnected. This is a textbook case of professional negligence. For a technician with "10+ years of experience" to miss a detached main trunk line while 80% of my heat was pumping directly into the attic is inexcusable. The Consequences: Because of this oversight, my system ran continuously for two weeks trying to heat the outdoors. This resulted in: $1,000 in wasted propane burned in just 14 days. $300 in service fees paid to a company that failed to perform a basic visual inspection of the air delivery system. Safety concerns for my family, as we were left in a freezing home during peak winter. If you are looking for a company that performs thorough troubleshooting and respects your hard-earned money, look elsewhere. I am currently seeking a full refund for the service fees and restitution for the fuel damages caused by their lack of professional care.
Propane plus is an excellent company with great service and well trained technicians. The office staff is excellent, friendly, professional and efficient. If you are looking for a propane company, it would be a great move to have Propane Plus as your propane company.
Took the day off of being with my dad in hospice to wait at home for my service appointment. They couldn’t give me a timing window, just said “afternoon”. Mid afternoon I got a call saying they were asking for volunteers to move their appointment. I explained I couldn’t move my appointment because I couldn’t take off more time away from my dad. Then they told me they couldn’t actually come that day. Why even ask for “volunteers” if you’re going to cancel my appointment? I called back later to cancel the rescheduled service for the next morning. When asked if they did something wrong, I explained the situation, and they hung up on me mid-conversation. No service and no empathy. Hard pass.
As a long-time customer, I am consistently satisfied with the services offered by Propane Plus. It's always a pleasure to see Anthony for our yearly maintenance, as he communicates effectively and keeps us updated throughout the day.
