Proulx Oil & Propane goes back a long way: a New Hampshire business magazine has described it as starting in 1944, when Joe Proulx began a heating oil company in Epping. A Seacoast news site has described Jim Proulx as president of the Newmarket company, a family business with about 40 employees. Its website lists service towns that include Nashua, Manchester, Bedford, Merrimack and Milford, and the company says it offers 24/7 emergency service. Its BBB page shows an A+ grade. A recent customer who moved into a home with one of its propane tanks says the company charges a minimum usage fee for not ordering propane, and switched to another company for that reason. That customer says a rep on the phone told them "The company has to make money too." They also say the company added late fees after its online payment portal showed an error, and would not waive them. A 2026 customer wrote that oil prices in their area were cheaper per gallon than what Proulx had just charged them. A 2025 customer wrote, "you will always get rescheduled so they can cater to their builder accounts." A recent reviewer said James Proulx, whom they called the CEO, took time to talk with their son during a Boy Scout summer camp fundraiser. A 2025 customer described on-time deliveries and competitive pricing.
“I could name... oh whatever, they did me no favors. Proulx in Newmarket.”
“proulx i know will not after the lampry river incident a few years back”
“We have Proulx and have been super happy with them for years.”
“A week later they said that if we used under 2 tanks per year they were essentially going to charge us 1 tank per year rental.”
“Proulx Oil &Propane unveiled its newly-remodeled pink propane delivery truck at Epping’s 275th birthday parade”
“For 80 years, Proulx Oil and Propane has been serving the greater Seacoast area. The business began in 1944 when Joe Proulx started a heating oil company in Epping.”
“Jim Proulx, 51, runs a family business with about 40 employees that began in 1944. He is president of Proulx Oil & Propane in Newmarket.”
My son and I met the CEO today, James Proulx. We were fundraising for Boy Scout summer camp in the community. I was blown away at how kind he was in engaging my son in conversation about being an entrepreneur. He took time to ask him questions and listen to the answers thoughtfully. I can only assume he engages with his staff and customers in this manner and am grateful to have interacted with him today. Here is a businessman who cares about community, connection and supporting the youth of our future. Thank you again James!
I recommend avoiding this company. They're disorganized, unforgiving, and have terrible, unprofessional customer service. I moved into a home with one of their propane tanks, but barely use any propane. They charge a "minimum usage fee" of $145 for not ordering any propane, which they claim is standard, yet I did my research and quickly found another company that doesn't, and switched for this reason. When I asked about it on the phone before switching, one of their reps said "The company has to make money too." and I heard people laughing in the background. So unprofessional and out of touch. As though an oil and gas company isn't making any money. They are now after me for the tank pick up, and had the wrong email on file, so I didn't see the notifications until they sent me a piece of mail. When I logged in and tried to pay online, their payment portal was down with an error notification. Now they are adding late fees. I emailed letting them know I tried to pay but couldn't, and they won't waive $10 in late fees (though they said they waived 2 other late fees, but I never even saw those- clearly that's all made up). I also told them they had the wrong email, and they changed my login information (I was always able to log in with a saved passkey) and now I can't log in. Just run, choose anyone else but them.
Just did my homework and found oil prices in my area are $.38 cheaper a gal than I just got charged by Proulx. New year time to shop!
Do not use this company terrible customer service and you will always get rescheduled so they can cater to their builder accounts
Proulx Oil has been great to work with—reliable, professional, and always responsive. Their pricing is competitive, deliveries are on time, and their customer service is top-notch. Highly recommend!
