Purple Brush Painting is a one-man operation built entirely around its owner — nearly every one of its 24 Google reviews since 2021 names Art (Artem Konovalov) directly, and several customers who used him once came back for a second project. The company says Konovalov founded it in 2017 after 15 years in remodeling and construction, and it covers interior and exterior painting, cabinet painting, and deck staining across towns from Newton to Malden. The reviews consistently describe the same working style: heavy prep before a brush ever touches a wall. One reviewer detailed the routine on a multi-room job with a tall staircase — a couple of hours taping and covering floors with a plastic barrier before starting each room. Another had a bathroom ceiling with failing plaster; Art diagnosed it, explained the fix, and did the repair alongside the paint job. Kitchen cabinets come up repeatedly as a specialty — several homeowners describe cabinets looking brand new after refinishing, with the paint holding up well over time. Beyond straight painting, reviewers describe him taking on adjacent carpentry and handyman work: sanding and refinishing wooden stairs, banisters, railings and a porch on one job, fixing rotted wood on a window-trim project, mounting a TV, and installing bifold doors. One reviewer specifically credits him with being upfront about what needed doing versus what could wait, rather than upselling extra work — a theme that recurs in how customers describe his estimates and communication generally. There's no negative pattern to report here — the record runs five years without a documented complaint, and it's clearly built on repeat referrals as much as new customers. The main thing to know going in is that this is a solo operator rather than a large crew, so scheduling and lead time are worth confirming directly for a bigger job.

I could tell that Art knew what he was doing when I showed him our falling down bathroom ceiling plaster and he described the process he would use to fix it and do it right. In addition to being knowledgeable and thorough, he pays attention to every detail and does the job like how he would do it in his own house. He was a pleasure to work with, very responsive, and his price was very fair. We also asked him to fix a few other things around the house since it was clear he would do the job well and at a good price. He is a gem!
Interior painting was professional and well done! Art took time to make sure all items were covered when painting. He was timely with responses and he gave a fair and reasonable price. I would highly recommend!
Art painted the exterior trim and doors on our two condo building and did a thorough, thoughtful job. He was lovely to deal with, communicative and friendly and we're delighted with the results. A neighbor recommended him and we would highly recommend him as well. Hire him!
I hired Arte to paint my kitchen. He did such a great job, I ended up having him paint my entire renovated living room, ceiling and trim included. He is an artist when painting. Very detailed in all aspects. I had a bathroom vanity I was replacing because of chips and he recommended painting it. He painted it and it looks brand new! He also mounted a 65" TV in my wall and installed bifold doors in my closet. I can't say enough about his services. He showed up everyday as scheduled and his communication was always excellent. His suggestions were great and he was exceptionally clean with every room he worked on. It was a pleasure to work with him and I would not hesitate to use his services again.
Very grateful to Art for the quality work he did at my condo (painting exterior trim, doors, railings, etc.) What really stood out was how easy it was to communicate with him throughout the project - he was always responsive and clear about timing and expectations. He was also genuinely kind and took the time to honestly explain what work was necessary versus what could wait, which I really appreciated. No unnecessary upselling, just straight-forward advice and quality craftsmanship. Absolutely would hire Art again and would definitely recommend him to others!
