It says it has been doing this since 2002, and its BBB file corroborates a 5/29/2002 incorporation, which makes it one of the older solar firms in the state rather than a post-boom arrival.
Its identity is genuinely unusual and it is the company's own stated fact: PV Squared is co-owned by its employees, run by a board of worker-owners, and it describes itself as a Certified B Corporation, NABCEP accredited and DCAMM certified. The Greenfield Recorder reported in October 2024 that the cooperative had obtained the certification required to work on public construction projects across Massachusetts, and Solar Power World named it No. 282 on its 2024 Top Solar Contractors List and its 2024 Most Forward-Thinking Contractor for the worker-ownership model.
Word of mouth is where the customer evidence sits, and it is warm. A commenter on r/massachusetts in April 2022 said PV Squared put a 10 kW, 33-panel system on his house in 2016, that the install went well with no leaks after a re-roof, that they have since spotted and fixed problems like software glitches on their own, and that the crews were neat and the people polite. Another, in September 2025, said they went with PV Squared out of Greenfield, that the roughly $20,000 purchase was "amazing", and that the company sells rather than leases; a 2022 commenter simply told a homeowner near the Pioneer Valley to call them.
The one dissonant note is worth knowing about. In May 2026 a commenter on r/northampton wrote that a solar project done with PV Squared about ten years earlier "was OK but not flawless", and that when he tried to reach them about a new project the phone call "just really didn't go good" - one person's account of a single call, and the only negative note in the record, but the most recent one.
Two practical things to confirm rather than assume: no customer star ratings or review bodies are published on its BBB profile, which is also not BBB accredited, and the licence numbers that appear there (13764 from the Division of Professional Licensure and 140077 from the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation) are directory-reported rather than registry-verified, so check them with the Commonwealth. If you are in Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden or Berkshire county and you want an installer with two decades of local history, a cooperative structure and in-house electricians, PV Squared is a strong candidate - ask for its current registration status and for the service terms after commissioning.
