One recent customer has hired R.B. Queern & Co. three times for air conditioning: replacing an old compressor/condenser unit, which meant modifying the existing air handler for a new refrigerant, installing a minisplit for a bedroom addition, and replacing the first-floor system except the ductwork. That customer wrote that each job was started and completed on the dates promised. The company describes itself as a heating company working with residential, commercial and industrial clients throughout Rhode Island, and says it has been in business 32 years. When a central air conditioner quit at the start of a heatwave, a recent customer said the office booked a tech for that same afternoon, and he diagnosed the problem and fixed everything within an hour at a price the customer called fair. A recent customer who needed a water heater replaced said they were there within the hour, with the heater to be installed the next day. A 2026 customer said that after the boiler went out for a night during a cold snap, they sent a team early in the morning for a couple of days in a row, and that Jason, the tech, also solved a line freeze. A 2021 customer said a boiler pilot light would not stay lit; a technician diagnosed a faulty thermocouple that same afternoon, replaced it and got the heat back on. A Rhode Island HVAC license, number 00003423, is active on the state registry under Richard B Queern. A 2023 customer said repeated diagnostic charges for a wall-hung boiler added up with nothing fixed, and that a plumber from off island later turned it on and it worked. A 2023 customer who praised an AC tune-up objected to being charged for the technician's travel time from the previous job, which they had not been told about when booking. A 2023 customer said they were invoiced for two hours for an estimate that took 45 minutes. A 2025 customer said the furnace room door was left ajar after a service visit, leaving the furnace exposed to the elements just before a snowstorm.
“RB Queern has been our go to for heating and cooling.”

I have used Queern three times for air conditioning services. Once was to replace a very old compressor/condensor unit serving our second floor with a more efficient and modern unit. That job required modifying our existing air handler to work with a new refrigerant. The second time was to install a new minisplit system for a bedroom addition. The third was to replace the entire a/c system - except ductwork - for our first floor, which covers significantly more square footage thant the previous two installations combined. In all three cases, every aspect of Queern's services met very high professional standards. For the first job, I obtained three quotes. Queern's was in the middle. I picked them because of the completeness and clarity of their proposal. The second and third times, I went to them sole source, which I expect to do in the future for air conditioning services. In each case, their staff was very professional in all respects, and the work was started and completed on the dates promised. They advertize "no surprises." I disagree; they surprise with their great performance! I'd use them for my heating work, if I didn't have a terrific local guy with whom I have had equally great experiences.
Just as the heatwave was beginning last week, our central a/c stopped working. We began calling many contractors and most were either not accepting new customers or we were told that the first available appointment was more than a week away. I remembered seeing RB Queern trucks in the community and they were recommended by a neighbor so I gave them a call around 10:00 am. I spoke to a friendly woman who was very helpful (as opposed to attempting to chat with a bot used by many other companies). She scheduled a tech to come by in the afternoon that same day! He arrived at 3:30 after calling to let us know he was on his way. He spent some time diagnosing the problem and explained the issues clearly. He had the necessary parts to repair the problem and fixed everything within an hour and the price was very fair. Our a/c has been working great since. I cannot recommend this company highly enough! Unfortunately, I can’t only give them 5 stars, but they deserve more.
I called 3 services to replace a water heater. After 3 days I'm still waiting for a response I called Quern they were here within the hour. Heater to be installed next day. Amazing service
Had a very positive experience. We've been regular customers for routine boiler service. Had an issue during the cold snap and lost the boiler for a night. For a couple of days in a row they sent a team early in the morning to get our boiler running right. We had a line freeze because the system was off and Jason, the tech, really went above and beyond to solve that problem for as well.
We had a diesel fuel smell in the basement. They made a few quick repairs and were off! Great service and a great price.
