Rapid Electrical Service and Contracting is a Somerville outfit that says it has done electrical work since 1978, run today by Joseph "Joey" Brienze out of a shop on Sydney Street. Its own listings describe it as a straightforward industrial, commercial, and residential electrical contractor — the kind of business people call for a panel problem or a wiring issue, not a specialty remodeling crew. Angi is really the only place its reputation shows up with any depth: 101 ratings averaging 4.3 stars, built up over years since 2018. The pattern across that history leans positive, but it isn't spotless. A number of reviewers over the years felt overcharged for the work, one customer's damage claim turned into a public back-and-forth with the owner disputing it, and at least one review is bluntly unflattering about the owner's manner. A strong overall average sitting alongside those specific, recurring gripes is worth taking at face value rather than rounding up. Outside Angi, the trail goes thin fast. Networx, Experience.com, Unilocal, and BusinessYab all carry a listing for the business, but between them there's essentially no independent review activity — one or two show a single review, the rest show none at all. It also isn't accredited by the Better Business Bureau. None of that is damning by itself, but it does mean Angi is carrying almost the entire weight of this business's public reputation. Before booking, it's worth asking about pricing up front and getting a number in writing, since that's the recurring theme behind the pricier complaints. For routine residential or light commercial electrical work from an operator that's been around Somerville a long time, it's a reasonable call as long as the quote is clear going in.

Joe is a class act, an expert in his field, and takes a great deal of pride in the quality he brings to his craft. He was able to diagnose my problem and was exceptionally thorough in his repair work. He also was very informative, and did a great job of explaining what was wrong and what he was doing throughout the process. I would hire him again and refer him to a friend or neighbor, without reservation.
