RARE Moving & Storage is a Boston mover people call for the whole job — packing, driving, and unpacking a house — but also for the specialty work a general mover won't touch: pianos, fine art, antiques. Founded in 2009 by Kamaul Reid, a Boston native, the company says it's been at it for 16 years and Reid still runs it today. Across the platforms that track it, the volume is hard to write off as luck: 4.5 stars from 57 Google ratings, roughly 4.6 stars over about 132 Yelp reviews per moveBuddha, and an A+ BBB rating. Recent Google reviews from this spring back that up with specifics — one names movers Roman and John for working fast without damaging anything, another describes years of repeat moves as consistently kind, professional, and fast. Its history isn't spotless, though. A recurring theme in past reviews is frustration with how the company handled damaged-furniture claims, with customers feeling ownership's response fell short. And as recently as June 2026, one reviewer said they told the crew and the office mid-move that stolen property was in the truck, and nothing was done about it — a serious claim worth asking about directly, not a one-off scheduling gripe. One more thing worth flagging: the company's own site claims BBB accreditation running 2009 through 2020, but its live BBB profile currently shows it is NOT an accredited business — that gap isn't explained on either side. RARE looks like a reasonable call for a standard local or interstate move, especially one involving a piano or fragile pieces its crews are trained to handle. Before booking, ask directly how they handle damage claims and get their chain-of-custody process for your belongings in writing.

While the movers were efficient and professional, I informed them mid move that they were taking stolen items, as well as informing the company itself know they were in possession of items my housemate had stolen from me and they refused to do anything.

I have been through so many moves with RARE, and they are always kind, thoughtful, professional, and fast. They understand how stressful moving is and do their best to make you feel supported and safe. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Roman and John were great very very professional. They worked quickly to get everything moved carefully so nothing got damaged outstanding and would recommend to anyone I could you won’t find better movers in the Boston area.

Had my second great experience with this company a couple weeks ago! I hired RARE Moving back in 2014 to move a bulky furniture item I'd purchased on Craigslist. They were so reasonably priced, friendly, and efficient, that when I needed to hire movers for a local move, I called them first. They did not disappoint! The office answered all of my questions, sent over a competitive estimate (I reached out to 4 local companies and the 3 that replied all had similar pricing -- Rare's estimate was smack in the middle). The movers arrived on time for the move and worked efficiently while still being careful with my things. And they came prepared: I needed some extra moving tape and a mattress bag, and was able to purchase directly from them. When we arrived at the new place, they checked in with me for placement of all furniture items and even rearranged a couple items when I didn't like the way they looked. All in all, an excellent experience and the final cost matched the price I was quoted almost exactly. Will continue to recommend RARE to anyone who asks!

3 men showed up and were so thorough and professional, wrapped all the furniture nicely and were so fast and efficient we were able to stop at our storage location and move items from there as well. Very friendly and very good. If I ever have to go through the hell of moving a home again I would 💯 use them again.
