On its Angi profile, Robert Baum says he established Robert's New England General Painting Contractors in 1970 and that it has provided painting services to Fairfield and New Haven Counties. It holds 4.5 stars from 122 ratings on Angi. A 2019 customer who had hired Robert twice said you could not tell where the popcorn ceiling was repaired. A 2018 customer said Robert Baum came to deal with a section of ceiling badly damaged by an overflowing A/C pan, in a house built in 1956 with decorative swirls to match. In that 2018 review, the room was turned into a cocoon of plastic sheeting while most furniture, paintings and carpets stayed in place, and the ceiling looked like new afterward. A 2018 customer said Bob repaired two holes in a living room ceiling, matched the existing texture and painted the ceilings in three rooms. A 2018 customer said Robert started and finished on the dates written in the contract; after warning that a few spots might need more paint, he came right away when called and fixed them. A 2017 customer paid $1,900 for interior painting of five or more rooms and said Bob waited through construction delays spanning four months. A 2016 customer said Bob and his entire team came back and spent the day touching up small areas after the work was complete. A 2019 customer had a rougher job: the contract had things written down wrong, paint was tracked onto hardwood floors and carpets, paint got on the cabinets, and three huge bags of trash were left behind. That 2019 customer was happy with the garage but said the kitchen looked sloppy. A 2019 customer said a very visible crack was left in a hallway after a promise to repair all the cracks. A 2019 customer said the wall preparation was not done well at first and took several cycles of repairs, though the painting came out good in the end. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0559778, held by Robert's New England Company LLC, as expired.
The agreement included completing wall preparation and painting. The wall preparation work was not done well, initially. There were several cycles of us finding dozens of areas with wall defects and the painters making repairs. In the end the overall quantity of the painting is good, but there were more issues than appropriate.
Showed up when said would be here. Painted living room. entrance 3 bedrooms. I was very pleased. Would highly recommend them. They cleaned up everything. Very professional. Even had a walk thru to make sure I was happy with job.
Robert is excellent at repairing and painting popcorn ceilings. when he gets done you can not tell where the ceiling was repaired. This is the second time I hired Robert and both times he was excellent. He is the Rembrandt of ceiling repair to me and I highly recommend hiring him if you need any type of painting done.
We read the reviews and were very excited to work with such a great/reputable company. We were however quite disappointed. We did a walk through and pointed out the areas we needed to be fixed. Ceiling in the garage needed repair from old water damage and we wanted the whole garage painted, also had some patchwork in the kitchen above the cabinets and wanted the kitchen painted, and a small area of popcorn ceiling in the master bath was peeling that we wanted repaired. Definitely things we can do ourselves but didn't have the time and really wanted professional work. He did give us a great quote and said would take about a week. On the contract he had everything written down wrong, we had to constantly point out and re-point the things we needed done, didn't seem like he was listening or understood. They did finish on time as quoted (1 week), however they arrived every day at 1030, took an hour lunch at noon, and then finished up everyday by 245. I know things need to dry, but didn't seem like a great use of time. I was glad I was home every day though because I feel like they would have done things they weren't supposed to. They also trampled paint through the house that we had to wipe up off the hardwood floors and carpets, they got paint on the cabinets, and left behind three huge bags of trash at the end. We are happy with the garage, but still unhappy with the kitchen as it looks sloppy and not completely smooth like we wanted. Honestly, we would rather finish up the work ourselves as it was very frustrating. Nice guys, did feel comfortable having them in my home but I don't think I can recommend them.
Did not deliver on his promise to repair all cracks in hallway only to be left with a very visible crack he claimed he did his best and no one would notice it. Would not recommend this company to anyone.
