Rueda Design

Rueda Design is a workshop first: more than twenty craftspeople, designers and technologists at 214 Arlington Street in Chelsea, making custom furniture and architectural millwork with design, CNC fabrication and finishing all under one roof. Erik Rueda founded it in 2013 while still in college, and the company describes itself as a veteran-owned business — he opened the first shop in a converted South End garage after active duty in the Army. Most of what it makes goes into commercial interiors. Its own pitch runs from boardrooms to restaurants, and a July 2025 Red Thread project page lists it beside Intec Group and John Moriarty & Associates on a pharmaceutical client's fit-out. Boston Magazine profiled Erik Rueda in September 2017, when the company was fourteen people and its largest client was News Corp. Chelsea's local paper reported in June 2015 that its move into half of the old New England Statuary foundry at 214 Arlington St had been approved. The customer-facing record is thin and split down the middle. A February 2026 reviewer — a design firm that has worked with them for years — described consistent precision and clear communication from concept through execution. Against that, a customer rebuilding after a house fire wrote in August 2024 that after four months of chasing, the first two phases of the design work still had not been delivered, citing excuses about lost devices and trouble with Teams, and unannounced vacations. That is one account, but it is specific and it is about the work. One more thing to check before signing: its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, held under Erik Rueda Design Lab LLC, is expired. For a one-off table or a run of built-in millwork made properly, this is a genuine workshop with range. If your project is a house rebuild on a schedule, ask who owns the timeline, what happens when a phase slips, and whether that lapsed registration matters for the work you need.
