Rueli Builders is the Spencer outfit people call after a fire, a burst pipe or a flooded basement — and its written record splits hard along that line. Restoration customers describe an owner who shows up; new-home clients describe a build they are still fighting over. The company works out of 120 Main St in Spencer and, on its own telling, is family-owned and founded by Dominick Rueli, who it describes as a seasoned hand in general contracting, roofing and fire restoration. Its BBB file lists a start date of 2018 and an LLC incorporation in 2020, and the business has been BBB Accredited with an A+ rating since August 2022. Alongside restoration it advertises roofing, decks, additions and solar panel installation. The emergency work is where the praise is concrete. In a January 2026 review, a granddaughter wrote that her widowed grandmother's basement had flooded for the second time in a year, every mitigation company was unavailable, and Rueli showed up personally within two hours after a referral. A February 2025 customer whose home flooded from a burst pipe credited Dominic with pushing a difficult insurance claim through without delays. Another 2026 reviewer said a project finished on time with steady contact throughout. The other half of the record is the reason to ask hard questions. Three one-star reviews posted in January 2026 describe a newly built house: cracks and multiple leaks discovered within a short time, a basement the reviewer called moldy from water leakage, work left unfinished and uncleaned, doors and windows they said were not properly insulated, and change orders billed for what they considered the contractor's own mistakes. One wrote that calls, texts and emails went unanswered after final payment; another alleged the owner solicited five-star reviews from friends. Those accounts are the reviewers' claims, not established findings, but they are specific and they are recent. Worth knowing: Google shows 4 stars across 24 ratings, and only seven review bodies are readable — four glowing, three scathing, five of them posted inside a single four-day stretch in January 2026. The company publishes MA CSL CS-113940 and HIC 201548 on its own site, and its BBB page lists both numbers, but neither was confirmed against the state registry here. If you need restoration triage after a fire or water event, the specific, first-hand accounts of fast on-site response are real. If you are hiring for a whole-house build or a large addition, read the January 2026 one-star reviews yourself, confirm both licence numbers directly with the Commonwealth, and get the warranty and punch-list terms in writing before you sign.
“Has anyone used Rueli Builders in Spencer MA? I have questions”
Rueli Builders was beyond professional. They offer great quality workmanship and completed the project on time. They went above and beyond from day one. They always stayed in touch each and every step of the way to keep our mind at ease. Highly recommend!
So thankful for Rueli. My single living/widowed nana, had a basement that flooded often. Owning the home 18 years now. When I reached out to Dominic’s company this was the 2nd time in 1 year it had flooded and she was feeling an absolutely defeated. It destroyed all my grandfather’s keepsakes and furniture they once enjoyed together. All mitigation outlets were unavailable until I was referred by a friend to Rueli. When I called Rueli builders he managed to show up personally and addressed it within 2 hours - this is including the time it had to have taken to drive from Worcester area to Westfield! Reliable and trustworthy to the very end of my nanas needs and damages. Thanks to these guys team, my nanas basement hasn’t flooded in over 2 years. These guys know how to rectify and alleviate a real bad situation into a guaranteed fixed situation. I highly recommend them. Hope you guys remember us!
Completely Unacceptable Work and Zero Accountability We hired this company to build a brand new home and were shocked by the quality of their work. Within a short time, we discovered cracks throughout the house and multiple leaks — issues that should never happen in a newly built home. What’s even worse is their response. Instead of taking responsibility, they denied fault, made excuses, and refused to properly fix their mistakes. We were left dealing with the stress, repairs, and extra costs for problems that were 100% caused by poor construction. A new home is supposed to bring peace of mind — not constant repairs and headaches. This company showed no professionalism, no accountability, and no care for their customers. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere unless you want to risk wasting your money on subpar work and zero support.
Quality of work ⭐️/5 communication ⭐️/5 Reliability ⭐️/5 Accountability ⭐️/5 Professionalism ⭐️/5 Shame on the builders. Hacked finish work. Left nothing plum nor level. Work left unfinished. House left uncleaned. Doors/windows not properly insulated. House not built to code. Disregards any punch list items. Doors do not shut correctly. Bathroom tiles chipped Charges Change orders for contractor mistakes. Nails found sticking out of door frames, along with stairs. Lots of rushed work. 0 warranty support. Has not answered calls, texts, nor emails sent after final payment. Floors uneven. Sloppy painting, paint sections of floor. Flimsy railing on both porch and decks. RUELI BUILDERS, far from builders. An all and 1 handyman would’ve build this house better.
Our house was deemed uninhabitable after our house fire, and it would’ve been better off staying that way. Dominick paid NO respect to our family, to our house, or to his employees. He was paid upfront and pushed for more money. The BRAND NEW house is nothing but shoddy, lazy, careless work. Leaks are consistent throughout the house, the basement is moldy due to water leakage, there’s continuous unfinished work, and cheap construction materials. When things started to surface, he had his friends write 5 star reviews saying he repaired their house fire damages EXACTLY at the same time he was building our house and complaining that it was taking too long. Dominick is down right obnoxious onsite and a theft at best, charging our family for ONE fixture FIVE times, and that doesn’t even scratch the surface. Insurance wasn’t much help and hundreds of thousands of dollars were robbed from elderly relatives. I would never in good conscience recommend this company, or this “man”, to anyone. He doesn’t have the decency to treat a family who suffered a house fire with enough respect to give them something livable. Shameful.
