Sam Giancarlo started S & J with a pickup, a homemade trailer and a handful of lawns, the company's website says, and it now describes itself as a family business caring for outdoor spaces across Eastern Connecticut. It says it has been in business for 17 years. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0641087, is active on the state registry under S & J LANDSCAPING LLC. A recent customer with a property in Lisbon listed regular lawn maintenance, debris removal, removal of some downed tree sections and occasional snow removal. A customer who had planned on stamped concrete said Sam explained the benefits of pavers instead, and S&J installed a patio with granite steps into the home. A customer with a large amount of brush said the company came out within a few days to assess the property, quoted quickly, and cleared every area requested. One more recent customer said S&J cuts a lawn with a lot of landscaping to work around and will move a heavy branch when asked. A 2024 customer said Sam's pricing was fair for clearing two overgrown sections of yard of weeds, blackberry bushes and ferns, getting rid of rocks and stumps. A 2023 customer who had used S&J since 2015 said Sam and crew created a stone path and an area around a fire pit, and one year cleaned gutters they noticed were clogged. A 2022 customer said Sean made sure a long dirt driveway was clear after a storm. A 2026 customer said the company's plowing caused property damage, and that Sam, described as one of its drivers, was unprofessional and disrespectful when contacted about it. A 2026 customer said a plow driver caused significant damage to the property during the snow season, and that a driver named Sam was rude and dismissive when called about a resolution.
