Sea-Dar Construction builds the kind of houses that get written up. Boston Magazine named it Best Custom Home Builder in Boston in 2024, and the Boston Design Guide made it a silver winner that same year for best single-family home over 8,000 square feet. A 2018 Home Builder Digest profile says Jean Abouhamad, a structural engineer and real estate developer, founded the firm in 1991. It is not only houses. Its own site describes construction management and general contracting on high-end residential, institutional and commercial projects, plus a property-services division that maintains upscale homes, run from offices in Boston and Sandwich along with New York City, Hampton Bays and Greenwich. A trade publication reported in 2019 that the company built a 14,000-square-foot ground-up lab building in the Fresh Pond area of Cambridge for West Cambridge Science Park. On the Cape the sites get awkward. A 2022 Cape Cod Life article about a finished home described crews backing large trucks almost a mile and a half down a road because a low overpass blocked the direct route; a 2017 piece covered The House of Shifting Sands, a dune house with an arcing copper roof designed by Ruhl Walker Architects. One thing to raise directly: a site citing U.S. Department of Labor enforcement records reports an OSHA inspection of Sea-Dar Construction at a North Falmouth job site that resulted in 5 citations. Ask how site safety is run and who supervises day to day. This is a builder for an architect-drawn custom home or a substantial renovation, not for a small repair call. If you hire them, get the project manager's name, the schedule of values, and the safety plan for your site in writing.
