Shawmut Metal made a replacement stove plate after a customer could no longer get one from the stove's manufacturer, according to a December 2019 Google review. The Swansea shop says its work ranges from structural steel to miscellaneous industrial metal and ornamental railings, including custom bending and welding. It reports 61 years in business. The 2019 customer said Shawmut measured an existing plate for a Russo wood/coal stove and initially estimated a couple of days. Within a couple of hours, the customer received a call saying the piece was ready; after pickup, they installed it and said it worked. In an August 2020 review, another customer said custom pieces for gym equipment and a car dolly matched up and bolted into place, and praised the pricing. A December 2025 customer described a quickly made piece they had been unable to find elsewhere. Metal supply also brings customers to the shop. A July 2025 reviewer called Shawmut their regular local supplier for truck or dumpster repairs and client projects, saying the staff were helpful. But a January 2025 reviewer complained of recurring issues or a poor attitude and said they repeatedly received rusted metal. They described a purchased 2x6 as having rot and deep pitting and reported being told it had been sitting outside and was not normally stocked. Google gives Shawmut 4.5 stars from 10 ratings, and BBB assigns an A+ grade. Procore lists structural steel as an offering. BuildZoom lists Rhode Island residential and commercial contractor licence number 23007.
