Skylight Roofing & Masonry gets hired for the water problem nobody else has solved — and the reviews split sharply on what happens after the cheque clears. The praise is specific and repeated. A homeowner writing in September 2024 said the company designed a solution to a waterproofing challenge "that confounded other contractors," installed a drain that works, and re-pointed and sealed a foundation problem found along the way, on a $6,000 job backed by a ten-year guarantee. A November 2023 customer described a leak between an original foundation and a newer extension that seeped in every heavy rain, and wrote that Darragh, the supervisor, knew exactly how to fix it. Another November 2023 customer singled out an extra trip back the next morning to run a magnetic sweep for stray nails in the driveway. Most recently, in July 2026, a homeowner with a decades-long slab leak into the apartment below called the finished job beautiful and neat — and the lowest bid. Against that sit two accounts describing the same failure. In a July 2024 review, an Andover homeowner who paid $9,300 that spring wrote that the same problem returned in the same places, "actually maybe worse," that the company came back once, and then stopped returning calls or texts. In an October 2025 review, another customer described a $37,800 basement waterproofing paid in $9,000 instalments every other day because the company would not invoice, a basement that flooded again at the first heavy autumn rain at the site of the work, and a promised warranty repair still unscheduled thirteen months later despite repeated calls. Both were told the work carried a long warranty — ten, twenty and twenty-five years appear across different reviews. So the thing to settle before signing is not whether they can diagnose the leak; the record says they can. It is what happens if it comes back. Get the warranty term in writing with a named contact and a stated response time, agree a payment schedule tied to completed stages rather than a fixed calendar, and insist on a written scope and final walk-through before the last payment — the October 2025 customer specifically describes being refused a Monday review and made to hand over the final cheque on a Friday evening. For a Somerville-area homeowner with a stubborn foundation or slab leak, brick and stone wall repair, or a chimney rebuild, this is a company worth quoting. Just document the warranty and the payment terms, and check the licence and registration numbers with the state yourself — none are published.

We have a huge concrete slab that's been leaking into the apartment below for decades. Skylight came in, looked carefully at the problem, and asked all the right questions. They even offered a twenty year guarantee on their work. They came and did a beautiful, neat, effective job. The kicker? They were the lowest bid! I am extremely unhappy with the work and service I have gotten from Skylight Roofing and Masonry. In the spring of 2024 I had flooding in my basement. I immediately went to Angi and messaged a few highly recommended companies. Skylight answered first. I decided to hire Skylight given their 5 star Angi ratings, excellent reviews, and given what I believed was the credibility of the staff they sent to describe the problem and how they would remediate it. I was astounded by the price but felt the foundation of my home was a critical investment. I was forced to write $9,000 checks every other day until the work was complete. They would not bill me. The total cost was $37,800. I have never spent so much for any repair on my house and I have lived here for 38 years. Skylight was not sure when they would finish but finished the work on a Friday afternoon. That made me concerned that they may not have dotted all their i's and crossed all their t's - $37,800 for a week's worth of work and they just happened to complete the work on a Friday afternoon when the day before they were not sure when they'd be done. I asked to review the work and give final payment on Monday but was refused. I was forced to allow the manager to come by Friday evening to review the work he did and give him the final check, which I did. Skylight "completed" the service but my insurance wouldn't cover it. They were surprised and agreed to write a letter to the insurance company given that other customers had gotten coverage. I had told Skylight that my insurance refused coverage because the repairs were due to wear and tear and sent them the documentation. Skylight wrote the letter but did not mention that other customers had gotten coverage and did not make the case for all the work they did beyond wear and tear. They sent the letter to the insurance company without showing it to me first and gave no other details about their work except addressing wear and tear. So, of course, they gave the insurance company no reason to reconsider their position. In the process of doing that, one of the contractors came out to look at the work and noticed a problem he was anxious to fix, stating he wanted to be sure everything was done correctly given their 25-year warranty. This was in August of 2024. Nothing was scheduled. My basement then flooded in the fall at the first heavy rain at the site of their very expensive work. They agreed to fix everything but they've been putting me off since last August. It is now September 2025. I placed many phone calls and texts and always was met with promises to assign someone to repair the work. This has caused me a great deal of anxiety. I now have no faith in the work they have done. I would not ever recommend them to anyone and wish I had never hired them in the first place. I don't understand how they have such positive reviews - they were all positive when I hired them. Although I recently saw one significant negative review similar to mine on Home Advisor regarding poor follow-up and lack of response for warranty work after an upfront payment. Given all the money I've invested and the 25-year (!) warranty they gave me, I would like my money returned so that I can hire a reputable firm who will do quality work and truly guarantee their work. I can't say enough 5 Star work. The estimator John came out the same day. I know that's unheard of! Then they started work within 8 days of signing the quote.
