Southern Maine Tree is a Scarborough tree company that a recent customer has hired for tree removal, stump grinding and removal, and pruning, saying it was very responsive each time. A 2025 customer said they took down some large ash trees in a difficult spot without incident and cleaned up the yards afterwards. That 2025 customer also said they were careful not to set equipment on the leach fields or the septic tank. A 2025 customer hiring the company for the second time said both times they were quick to respond and schedule the jobs, with very reasonable pricing. On Google it holds 4.7 stars from 53 ratings, and its BBB grade is A+. The company lists a service area running from Portland and South Portland out to Gray and New Gloucester. A complaint on its BBB page accuses the company of charging more than four times what other tree companies charge when a major storm happens.
“In 2011, he launched Southern Maine Tree in Scarborough. At this point in his second career, Cross is working on selling the business to his longtime partner.”
Justin and the team are awesome. We’ve used them for a number of different projects at our house (tree removal, stump grinding and removal, pruning, etc) and each time they were very responsive, professional and did great work! I highly recommend using southern Maine tree for any type of tree service!!! They are a top-notch outfit!
This is the second time I have worked with Justin and Southern Maine Tree. Both times they were quick to respond and schedule my jobs, with very reasonable pricing. They are pleasant, professional and great to work with. Will definitely call them again!
Easy to work with, very responsive and very quick. 10/10 experience
Professional, polite, and efficient. Took down some large ash trees in a difficult spot without incident and cleaned up the yards afterwards. Was also careful to not set equipment on things such as leach fields or the septic tank. Would highly recommend.
I believe this company/man is scamming folks in their greatest times of need. When a major storm happens, he offers to fix tree problems right away, for more than 4x what any other tree company charges.
